Office Pool for the Nationals

Check out the series of photos of Hunter spinning and close to another car, but I don’t think that’s Herrington (Cobetto?) and doesn’t look like contact at all. Maybe a different incident. FYI, found this link off of nasaforums. There’s side shots of just about all the SE30s.

is the track a different configuration this year? I didn’t look it up, but I recall that last year’s best time was in the 1:46 range.

Yes, no bustop this year

Looks like they finished the way they started…

Simon fought his way thru the pack to get 4th and Mike D. took 5th.

Way to go guys! Sounded like a great race.

Live timing was down but I listened to it.

I had trouble with it too. Restarted and emptied the cache seemed to do the trick.

Yea, came up during the race.

Good race, not much action, but solid and no issues which is great for the drivers. Congratulations Cobetto, Allen and Skeen and the rest of the racers.

Just a quick note before I hit the door for a 12 hour drive to Gulfport, MS. Had a great time and enjoyed meeting the guys that came for the show. Had some bad luck on Friday with that ledgends car and ended up with a bent trailing arm and other stuff wacked up not yet found. Not sure I could have gotten to the 43’s like those other guys but I had a solid 44 flat in the car waiting to come out. There is some real talent in this class. The people make the class. What a great bunch of guys. I hated spending all my time under the car with the porta power but that is racing. After the hit the car was never right. Like Jack Money said, I wish it had just screwed up the front end. It is easier to put back together. I had a great start on Friday’s race and some good luck to put me in the front. Not as fast as those other guys and that seems to always be the case for me so I just make the car wide and hope for the best. Had a spin after some slight contact with Harrington (that was my fault) and that really pushed me back on Saturday’s race. Still had the forth spot on Sunday but the car just was not there. Got a bad start, Two out of class cars spun right in front of me on two different occations causing loss of positions for me. Carter made a great pass in One following a train of Ledgends cars… I can come up with some more excuses with more time.

All in all can’t wait till next season. Going to try to make VIR at least next year.

Good luck to the rest of you for the remaining of the season,

Your Hillbilly Racer,

Michael in KY

Phew what an up and down weekend. Started the first session with a spin in turn 1 right in front of Cobetto who could have collected me easily. The car was not handling right, more on that later. Qualified 6th, got a good start, my first standing start and then got pushed off the track, nobodys fault but we were 3 wide and I was on the outside. Donny Edwards moved Skeen over which ultimately sent me flying into the grass and I went for a wild ride over the bumps got back on in 10th. Race immediately went yellow, when it went green I got back upto 8th but the car was still a handful. Sat morning we finally found the problem, the strut collar was off the left front shock so the shock was just floating around. Qualified 4th for the 2nd Q race. On the start I missed a shift from 1st to 2nd, something Carter had already warned me about, doh!. John Allen hit me from behind, he tried to miss me but just glanced the rear end. Once I got going I think I was in 10th. Started working my way up, got to Herrington and he lost the rear end going into turn 1. I had absolutely nowhere to go and crunched his left front with my right front, pretty big hit and I was out of the race. I have to thank Elephant Motorsports for working on the car till 1 am Saturday night. They replaced the control arm (thanks Carter for that!), the tie rod, fabricated a sway bar link, took out the BFH and pounded the car straight. Then took out the cutter and cut though the metal spoiler, bumper etc to make the wheel arch bigger as the right front was moved back. Then realigned the car and we checked camber. We had -6.5 camber at first had to move the plate all the way out and got it to -3.3, the left was at -2.9 for comparison. Started at the back in the championship race and worked my way to 4th. I had great fun racing M.Davidson who raced me extremely clean, he is definitely beyond his years in terms of his on track maturity. By the time I got up to Davidson I had picked up the worst understeer, I think everybody was probably having some tire troubles at that point in the race. Anyway I better get back to work for now, had a great time the car is fixable, had a great time meeting everyone. I’ve got some great video, which I’ll post at a later date. No pictures as I didn’t have my camera, doh, but Jack has some good ones I think.

Good Stuff…Congratulations to Chris and the rest of the field who were lucky enough to be there.

Tough weekend for the homwtown boys. Glad it went well for most. Simon, its good to have more competiton out there, isn’t it. A lot more thrilling than what we use to do with BMWCCA.

Absolutely! That 4th place was so gratifying after all the troubles we had and the racing was great all weekend. I did forget to thank Valley Motorwerks for giving us a used front shock after we thought it was a blown shock, and I have to thank Michael Osborne who helped me out trying to find another sway bar link and for just generally helping. Looking forward to an even bigger field next year.
