Office Pool for the Nationals

#1

Okay, I need a computer literate guy to run with this idea. We could do a top 5 pick 'em. Secret ballot to keep it fun and not offensive to the racers (I’d hate to think that I didn’t get any votes were I participating. Then again I said top 5, not top 18.)

Great idea for all of us armchair spec E30 racers. Gives us some way to stay connected to the Nationals event. What do you think?

Call if you know how we could pull this off.800-755-1715

Regards, Robert Patton

PS, you are correct, I don’t have a life.

We’ve all raced against the participants and we’ve got a feel for their driving.

I’ve noted my top 5 (in order). No financial betting—just a test to see how well you know the racers, their level of preparation, and the Mid Ohio track.

Send me an e-mail and I’ll compare notes on the finish versus the picks. I’ll keep the ballots confidential.E-mail to: rpatton@ix.netcom.com.

Regards, Robert Patton

I put my ballot in!

#4

I’ll put mine right out in the open.

 1. Simon Hunter (Good Driver, plus home track)
 2. Michael Osborne(Good Driver, plus home track)
 3. Chris Cobetto (Defending Champ)
 4. Carlton Goldwaite (Ran some smokin’ times last year)
 5. Jonny Allen (Fast Driver)

#5

News flash: you can find the list of entrants on page 7 of the "NASA Nationals 2007" topic.

Carter Hunt is at the Nationals with a new engine that dynos with the others in the mid-150s. Herrington got an engine installed and did make the trip to Mid Ohio.

I’m starting to see the ballots. Kinda fun.

I have never seen a few of the guys who are going so it would likely be a guessing game for me but I will have to say that home track advantage will be worth something…

#7

I’m in.

Home track advantage will win the race but I’ve got one of Southeast’s finniest on the podium…

Go Skeen!

Good luck to all the drivers.
Have a fun and safe race.

#8

Mine are in. By the way, I have listed Skeen to win 6th place… Oh the irony…

#9

Here is my guess:

 1. Simon Hunter (home field advantage, fast track record)
 2. Michael Osborne (home field advantage, fast track record)
 3. Carter Hunt (fast last year, fresh motor, experience)
 4. Chris Cobetto (fast last year, fresh motor, experience)
 5. J. Allen (just a guess)

I predict that Carlton will be fast but probably have mechanical issues or go off during the race. There are several racers that I do not know so this is really anyone’s guess. I wish I could be there to watch the race. Hopefully everyone has there in car cameras set up.

Oh, that is good. Mine are in too, and I’ve got Skeen in the final 5.

Give em hell Mike!

This will be tough…

What about Herrington? he swept RRR this year and has been to Mid O, Davidson? I think Home track is a big advantage, but I may pick some dark horses…

Geez guys you might be over doing the home track thing, but I appreciate the love. Camera is ready to go and I’ll try to have updates in the evenings but might be too busy hanging out with everyone :cheer:

#13

Simon, your fast reputation preceeds you. Will you be able to preceed others on the track? Good luck and have fun.

Most of the MA racers have been to Mid Ohio before. Can you lend a hand to the SE racers ( Skeen and Pantas) who have never raced there? You know, us armchair guys with keyboards and monitors have to cheer for our represenatives.

No problem, unfortuantely I won’t be at the track till tomorrow. Hopefully they are getting a handle on it today. Mid Ohio is pretty technical though. I should be able to give them a few pointers though, shouldn’t be too hard to find Pantas he’s in the pink car right?

#15

Simon, yes, Pantas is in the pink car. Skeen is in the white #143.

Thanks, Robert

Office Pool Scoring:

Here is how we’ll do it…
Maximum 50 pionts.

5 points for every racer you pick that makes the top five.

5 points for every racer that you place in the correct finishing position.

Simple enough?

Keep those cards and letters comming to: rpatton@ix.netcom.com

Thus far I’ve got 9 entries.

Hey, even those at the race can participate. Just get those entries in before the start of the first race on Friday. Also you can make changes to your entry provided that it is in before race start.

Regards, Robert Patton

Skeen is already in the low 45’s pretty damn good for never seeing the track!

http://www.mylaps.com/live/showLaptimes.jsp?tid=313&transponder=312802

couldn’t find any more times but timing and scoring is up and running.

#18

Simon, Skeen and Pantas are our SE hopefuls.

Skeen should get the hang of it pretty quick. Then, watch-out…He’s got the nickname of "Mike the Machine" for his consistant ability to turn fast laps. And, should the situation dictate, he’s not afraid to mix it up." He ain’t skeered"

That’s what makes the Nationals such a great event. I could go through the list of the MA racers and add flattering comments to each of their drivers. As the home field guys, you and Osborne are going to have your hands full.

Thanks for the updates, Regards, Robert Patton

No disrespect to the fine and experienced racers from other areas, but I have to represent Norcal a bit and put in a vote for Donny Edwards in the top 3 - he is fast as hell, has a professionally built car by Valley Motorwerks and has several championships under his belt from other classes.

We also have Steve K. "Motormuncher" from Norcal, and my bet is that he breaks at least one part on his own car, if not more  , but will be tearing up the track times without fear. I don’t know the other guys so well and we are definately outnumbered from Cali. Have fun everyone, I can’t wait to watch the scoring.

Does anybody have transponder #s for the guys who aren’t coming up by name? Quite a few SE30 entries are visible on the live timing, but many of them are undecipherable unless we know the Xponder…Anyone?
