NASA Nationals 2007 Mid-Ohio

Since I won’t be there till late Thursday night I’ll put my 2 cents in now :). If I had my choice I would vote for a split rolling start. I certainly don’t want a rolling start where we are right behind the GTS group and have to immediately fight through 10 GTS cars, it was crazy enough with just 3 or 4 spec E30s I couldn’t imagine a large group trying to immediately fight through traffic on the first lap. As Mike mentioned we have not done a single standing start during the year, so if we do standing starts I just ask that the championship race not be the only standing start. I would definitely want the qualifying races to be standing as well just so I can get an idea of what it is going to be like. Thanks for considering our input ultimately I’ll probably be fine with whatever decision, I’m most concerned that the start is split than whether it is rolling or standing. There are 50 GTS cars and 18 of us that is a pretty large group, scrap that I just noticed that we did get moved :), we are with the legends and Performance touring groups.

I feel the same way about the starts as Simon. I don’t like the idea of being with the legends cars. Slow but hard to get buy and they don’t mind to bump. So much for 13/13. I guess I just can’t be pleased can I

So where is the Spec E30 paddock going to be? I normally park under the big trees on the grass just south of the fenced off wooded area. I will be there early on Wednesday and would like to park with the other Spec E30 guys and get to know everyone better.

I don’t really care if it’s standing or rolling, but a split start is a must if you ask me.

Michael,

We parked up the hill from your spot last year. I am not sure where to park but there was plenty of room up there for us to stretch out last year. Since you are a "local" suggest and mark the turf

Having never done a standing start, I’d rather see a rolling start. But then again, I don’t think a few more dents on the car will be noticed.

Standing starts are not as bad as you might think. I did my first one at Rockingham.

I thought… "Hey, no biggy. I’ll be at the back of the pack anyway"

Them Patton came and informed us we’d also be inverting the field  :pinch:

Everything way clean and good. You’ll enjoy it.

Wish I was going to be there. Maybe next year.

Agreed, you guys are making way too big of a deal of the standing starts. They aren’t hard or dangerous in my opinion.

I had to do one in my first race ever, piece of cake.

I’ll see you guys there next year.

Uhh, that race was rolling–were you stopped? We never did standing starts at The Rock.

I’ll put in another vote for standing starts. I’ve only done two, but they are so much fun that I’ve been looking forward to having them at Nationals.

Oh yeah. I was behind IndyJim… it was like we were stopped.

any ways… standing starts aren’t bad.

Everyone who is for standing starts has at least done them in their region. I am sure after a few of these I will feel better. If we would have done them at Hyperfest or something I would have known what to expect. But instead we are talking about the big dance. I hate to have to do an unknown during a qualifying race where finishing position is so important. At a regional race no big deal but this is not that. This is Nationals. Not the place for firsts in my opinion.

Michael

ps There were a lot of firsts in my first race. Rolling starts were new then as well and we had to do practice starts to know what to expect, even passing in the turns was new.

#57

Mike, you’ll be fine. Standing starts are a blast, looking forward to it.

#58

Johnny,

With your 160+ HP I am sure you like them

Just kidding, I will make do with whatever comes my way. I have to redeam my poor finish at Hyperfest and try to get to the top 5 this time.

Has anyone going to nationals considered having some kind of specE30 cook out say on Friday or Saturday nights? It may be nice to get a grill going and some steak or dogs or brats or ?? Maybe get some margarita’s flowing as well as brew. We can show some videos of what not to do and just have some fun. I am camping so will be around for sure. I can bring just about anything we may need although I don’t currently have a grill in the trailer. What do you say? Someone start a list of what we all need to bring. With 18 competitors I can see maybe 36 people counting all the crew. I for one will have my family of 4 as well as my dad (crew chief) and his friend.

So what do you think??

Mike et al,

I will have a 40x50 area in the upper paddock and had planned on having not only a display but also a grill, beverages, etc. I’d be happy to host it if people are interested. I’d already planned on having a bunch of food and stuff for the EMS team/families so if the SpecE30 crowd would like to gather let’s do it. What I’m thinking is Saturday night. I was going to do something for our team/families on Friday. How does that sound?

Probably the best thing is to determine how many people are interested. Sort of a firm RSVP with the number of people would be good. For food then…brats/burgs/dogs/chix/chips/beer/marg’s…anything else?

Lemme know if you guys wanna do this. Cheers.
