I’m assuming yes, it was last year. It will be my first standing start ever which should be good for a laugh if nothing else. Any tips?

I think there is still a chance we might get moved to another group (the 944 group would make sense) as the GTS group is quite large. I asked about that on the NASA boards, the groups should get set tomorrow I believe.

Registration closes in 3 days so if you’re on the fence time to sign up

We’re doing a mix of standing and rolling starts. I chose a standing start for the Sunday Championship race because we did that last year. I’m not good at standing starts but I thought the group would prefer it.

Not sure how I feel about a mix I think it should be the same for all races so there is no confusion. I don’t mind a mix but I certainly don’t want the championship race to be my first and only standing start at least one race before hand would be nice.

OK, now I am scared. I have never done a standing start before. I thought that we were doing a rolling start. I think then even mentioned it last time at Mid-ohio as they were doing the same starts as Nationals.

Anyway, anyone want to give me some tips on how to do and not do a standing start? I am clueless.

Make sure car is not in Reverse!

I have been thinking about this and not sure I like the idea of standing starts after going all season with rolling starts. Every race in the OH/IN region has been rolling start as well as the only race out of region I have been to. At each Mid-Ohio race Brian made a point to do things just like was going to happen at Nationals to get everyone familiar with the system. Some classes did rolling and some did standing. Maybe he is not in the loop or maybe we are not but we always did a rolling start behind GTS. I know there have only been 4 racers in the OH/IN region and with the regional director not making it to any races we just floated along not making waves and doing as told.

I guess what I am saying is that I do not want Nationals to be my first experience with standing starts. If I had known that standing starts were going to happen I would have approached Brian and requested that that is what we do all season. I am not even sure how my car will react to a standing start and what will break if anything.

Respectfully submitted,

Michael

A good standing start is no different then when you begin rolling to leave the pit lane onto the track, unless you are out front you will have to be wary of traffic and/or not slip the tires/wheels - but if you do a normal clutch release (ie. don’t get too excited) then you’ll be fine - oh and watch the flaggers on the side  they can be your best fried for getting thru the traffic should someone stall ahead of you.

I just got around to reading the letter from Mansfield concerning the dinner on Thursday night. It said only two tickets per driver. I need a third. Anyone who is going to Nationals flying solo? Al? Can I have your spare ticket for Thursday’s dinner

Thanks,

Michael

Yo

I will be there solo, so you can have my ticket if:

1)You somehow get me the video of us at Summit

2)You agree to be my personal driving coach for the whole nationals event

  1. make sure I have a supply of Jagermeister

  2. get me the phone # of the local cat house.

Sounds like a deal doesnt it??

Al

Ok… I could not stay away any longer. The car is at the shop getting a side net installed and I paid my money for a trip to Ohio.

I am also considering camping instead of using my hotel reservation. Is anyone else doing the same?

Can someone who lives near Mid-Ohio provide a good idea of how warm it will be that week?

If it is going to be too hot, I will stay at a hotel.

Thanks!

-Steve

What qualifies as a supply of Jager for Al?

#34

I don’t mind the coaching but you may want to look to Simon for that. I need his help as well. Every time I think I am getting close he messes up the curve.

The cat house won’t be a problem but I better not post info on the web or it may not be there when you show up.

I will work on the video and try to get it to you at Nationals.

As far as camping Steve, I always camp. The party does not start till around 10 or so. It was very hot on Thursday night in August but I just left the door open and had a fan on as well as bug spray. The rest of the weekend was very nice in the evening. I would suspect that the weather would be just perfect for camping. My wife actually will be cold at around 2 am.

I will also have an extra ticket if anyone needs it.

By the way, anyone have an up-to-date head count?

Anyone happen to get a letter from Mid-Ohio today or in the last few days? An empty sealed envelope showed up today in the mail, just wondering what was supposed to be in it. I know of one other person that got an empty envelope also so maybe they all went out empty.

Good group guys! And it’s good to see that Steve K. is back.

Regarding the starts, we have done rolling and standing starts in the Mid Atlantic Region but Spec E30 is a National NASA class and we want all our racers to have a good experience at the National Championship.

While Spec E30 is not "run by committee," we do take feedback from the racers. Therefore, we can certainly discuss it here, but we will certainly discuss the starts during the day on Thursday and can make changes that suit the group.
