NASA Nationals 2007 Mid-Ohio

OK - it is time for a new thread with this discussion lost in "VIR race results."

Nationals is an awesome event. Lots of track time, great world class venue, national coverage, big vendor participation…

Time is running out to sign up. Best estimates show 14 cars signed up as of now. If you are on the fence, do it now. Come on guys - especially the mid-at guys - Kappy, JP, Scott, Travis? I’ll be racing, so you won’t finish last!

Alright, this thread got me to end my procrastination and I finally signed up.

And don’t forget about the World-class Goldthwaite track burgers…all you can eat.

You know I’m in, this will be my first opportunity to race against more than a couple of Spec E30’s at one of my favorite tracks. I can hardly wait. It will be good to put faces to screen names as well.

More good news for Spec E30 racers…

Brakeswap.com Offers $5500 Gift Certificate Rewards

RICHMOND, CA-July 24, 2007. The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) is pleased to announce that Brakeswap.com will offer a generous $5500 gift certificate rewards to the top GTS, Spec E30, and Honda Challenge finishers at the 2nd annual NASA Championship event at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course on September 13-16th, 2007.

"We had an excellent time racing our #199 GTS3 BMW M3 in last years Championship event and are looking forward to the event later this year" said Eric Wong, Brakeswap.com President. "Our program for last year’s event went well and we wanted to continue our support of the NASA National Championship event by expanding the same program to not only our fellow GTS and Spec E30 racers, but to include Honda Challenge as well. We would like the chance to earn your business and hope that you give us that chance before this event. We’ll see you at Mid Ohio later this year."

The award program will apply to the Spec E30, GTS1, GTS2, GTS3, GTS4, GTS5, H1, H2, H3, H4, and H5 classes at the NASA Championship event. Competitors must purchase at least 1 set of brake pads prior to the championship race weekend and run 2 BrakeSwap.com stickers (one on each side of vehicle) supplied by BrakeSwap.com at time of purchase. If you’re already a Brakeswap.com customer and need the required stickers, please contact BrakeSwap.com. The contingency program will award drivers a gift certificate in the amount of $200 for first place, $150 for second place, and $100 for third place if there are seven or more starters in their class. If there are 10 or more starters, 7th place will receive a $50 gift certificate.

They just updated the entry list

Walter Ford CA
Alonzo Taylor NC
Chris Cobetto VA
Joe Woodward IN
Michael Davidson VA
Ed Davidson VA
Carlton Goldthwaite NC
Michael Osborne KY
Carter Hunt NC
Scott Lear FL
Sean Curran NJ
David Herrington NC
Simon Hunter IN
Michael Skeen NC

That makes 14, Damion will make 15. Who else is going, no Patton’s? And what happened to John Allen he dropped off the list?

Why doesn’t the Toyo press release mention SE30 as an eligible class? I could’ve sworn it did before. I’m assuming it’s just an oversight, but thought it strange.

Hey Simon, don’t fret, I’m down on the next page. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

I’ve got good news for all you E30 drivers - I am driving the Pink Panther at the Nationals
They are in the process of changing my entry from AIX to E30 -

BTW - does anyone know what PT class the E30 falls into? I was going to run the car in PT and E30 to get more track time and possibly learn how to drive an E30

There was Spec E30 this weekend at midohio that ran in PTB as well to get the required races to qualify for Nationals.

Here’s what I came up with:

Base Class: PTF** (** = +14 pts)

+5 Toyo RA-1’s
+3 removal of rear seat
+1 removal of trunk carpet, sound deadening, etc.
+1 removal of rear carpet, sound deadening, etc.
+1 removal of front carpet, sound deadening, etc.
+2 non-OEM or modified complete exhaust system downstream from the exhaust manifold
+1 removal of catalytic converter

14pts
+14 pts

28 pts = PTE

PTE is a great deal if you want more track time and we could have two complete E30 races at the Nationals B) B) B)

A legal Spec E30 should run in PTE unless you are bad with teh maths…

Well guys you can strike me off the list. Due to some unforseen house expenditures I will not be able to attend the Nationals at Mid Ohio. If it was a little bit closer and only for two days I could probably pull it off but as it sits right now I am out. Maybe next year:(

It is appropriate that Inspector Clouseau (sp?) is driving the PP

Oh man this is too easy but I won’t take the shot.
