What "trick" items do you wish you had on your car

#1

I am planning a se30 build as some of you know.

My question is so that I can try to build this car with as little regret and redo as possible.

What items/fab/styling/components do you wish you included on your car while building it?

I recently made an attempt to add air jacks to the build but was the official ruling was they are not legal (who do I pay off to get this changed?). I am looking for ideas along that train of thought.

Maybe you wish you had a trick electronic switch/fuse panel, mounted a radio in a certain spot, etc.

Please share. (also please share speed secrets;) )

Why do you want air jacks? We dont do pit stops you know. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t travel with a crew and I’m not much muscle, makes tire changes and other work easier/faster/safer. Also with all this talk of difficulty making minimum weight, I thought I would get there with some creative add-ons. So again who do I have to bribe…

Dude, pull yourself together. Just get your car built, get it on the track and then you can play with little tweaks as the months go by.

5yrs from now when you total your car you’ll have all sorts of ideas for your 2nd car.

There’s a ton of information here about various things we did to our cars after learning some hard lessons. Spend an hour or two going thru each of the technical subforums. There’s even a couple threads re. build “tips and tricks”. I think those might be in the “misc” subforum.

If this car makes it 5 years before it is totaled I made it 4 bonus years.

I read through that linked thread, very good specific info there. I will be using those tips.

Jonny if muscle is a proplem and money is not why don’t you just buy a complete ready to race front runner to start with. This way if you wreck it the first year you can just buy another one and keep race.

Money is always a problem, this is racing.

But buying a front running car doesn’t solve the muscle at the track problem.

I kept functional my center air vents, windshield defrost vent, heater box and rear window defroster.

I can blow ambient or heated air through the center vent or on my feet and can blow air at my fogged up windshield.

So while sitting in Pre-Grid I can have some ventilation blowing on me and in cold weather I can better my visibility with the defroster(s) and give myself a little warmth.

my 2 cents.

I forgot…I kept the adjustable switch for the side mirrors functional too and within reach after being belted in. B)

I like this idea, fogged windshields are always a major issue. Do they make a heated windshield for the e30?

I haven’t heard of a heated windshield for an E30.

trick item? a faster driver lol

toyed around with the idea of using the rear window defroster from an e30 cabrio to defrost front windshield after i pulled the heater core but never got around to it.

You’ll like it less when the heater box soaks your feet with scalding water, or when your engine fails due to a leaking coolant hose.

How would you say that compares to sliding off the track and into a wall because you couldn’t see the deep water because of a fogged up windshield?

If you have new hoses and a good heater core the chances of failure there are pretty remote. I’d say the benefit outweighs the risk.

#14

never really had a problem with a fogged windshield on track. esp if you clean the windshield properly inside and out.

#15

I haven’t really gotten to test it yet, but I bring Rain-X Anti-Fog with me, to apply if I need it.

#16

Cheap hotel shampoo does the trick.

#17

+10

#18

Nope. Must be Dawn dishsoap!

#19

Clue me in… How do you apply the shampoo or Dawn to the windshield?

#20

Apply it to the washcloth you also stole from the hotel. Wipe it on inside of windshield. Wipe off with hand towel you stole from the hotel.
