New dual pumps didn’t fix my sputtering, so don’t get your hopes too high.

My hopes are high that my fix is the connecting pipe between the two saddles (early style). On my car, that pipe is pinched (I’ll take a pic if anyone cares). Wishful thinking, off topic, but in case anyone’s interested:

Numero Quattro. Soak rusted ends in PB, wait day, return, take shower in gasoline and see $40 worth of fuel soak into the garage concrete, replace line, pray that the next time you’re heading into T1 at Road Atlanta on 1/2 tank everything’s blue bird days, the Sound of Music and lollipops.

Now, back to the drama and arguments due to our hobby, I mean, weekend recreational sport.

Is it specific years or something?

Perhaps we can get rule clarification on that after you make this modification too.[/quote]

seems like carter already touched on that subject…

Yes David, I realize that, even though the rules don’t say “pumps” as in plural and even though Carter has already said rule enforcement isn’t up to him. Carry on.

9.3.8.1. Any adjustable or fixed camber or camber/caster plate is allowed, unless specified in
these regulations.

Does that mean we can only run one C/C plate? I guess I’ll run mine on the left side of the car…shouldn’t need too much on the RF for most tracks. That way I’ll get lower ride height over there too. Maybe the asymmetrical setup is the trick.

Skeen must be dreaming of nascar again.

Mike, How about this one:

9.3.9.1. As of June 2, 2008 the Toyo R888, size 205/55/14 or 205/50/15 must be used in
competition. The Toyo RA-1 may still be used in practice or other non competition
sessions.

Does this mean we can only have one tire, or is it okay to use four? I hope going forward you will only use one.

We both know that it is assumed we are logical in our black and white interpretations of the printed word. The 325 was manufactured with single and dual pump applications. Converting a single pump car (89 model) to dual pump car is not defined as an acceptable modification any more than coverting an 87 model (metal bumper)to plastic bumpers. I would be in favor of a rule change to allow this but it isn’t there currently, thats all I’m saying.

back to the Toyo rule…

So I guess Nasa and some of the competitors do not really consider the guys who only run 2 or 3 events a year…and from what I read some of yall in MA or the NASA officials are going to DQ anyone that shows up with RA 1’s or is it just the guys that win?? I have bought 2 sets of 888’s but still have RA1 rains and some 1 year old shaved tires I want to use up.
maybe I will see yall at VIR next Feb. when it is not an issue anymore

Al, sounds like a discussion with Pantas, Taylor and your fellow SE racers at the upcomming CMP race two weekends from now. Better yet, let’s resolve the tire issue now. Refer to the SE board and I’ll encourage Pantas and Taylor to address the sticky (pun intended) subject.

Regards, Robert Patton

Is your car a 1987? My E30 (recently sold) was a 1987 with the two fuel pumps. I also had fuel starvation issues, but with less than 1/2 tank and during left hand sweepers. I decided to bite the bullet and replaced both fuel pumps (in-tank booster and the main one), fuel filter, and fuel pump relay. Kind of a “nuclear” approach but it did fix the problem. I never had a fuel starvation problem again, even at less than 1/4 tank.

#51

I’ve got an 87 also. Before I realized that the fuel problems on the track were due to a layer of rust in the bottom of the tank I replaced both pumps. After cleaning and sealing the tank and with the new pumps in place I can run down to the fuel warning light without experiencing fuel starvation in turns. With good pumps and a rust free tank you should not see fuel starvation issues, in my experience.

Al, in the SE you will be able to use up old supplies of RA1s, for those who have partially-worn tires they want to finish off before investing in new ones.

The intent is not to allow folks to show up for the rest of the season with new RA1s. If buying new tires, buy the correct new tires.

I believe the issue with Skeen at Barber was he’d ordered 888s, the tire vendor brought only RA1s, and it was either run those or not run.

As Pantas has been saying, don’t procrastinate when you do order new 888s and confirm availability before future events, as supplies are sometimes tight.

This is a SE regional concession only. If running elsewhere, including Nationals, you’ll need the right stuff.

That is correct, contact SASCO as soon as you realize you need tires, the R888’s have been scarce and they can’t always guarantee they’ll be able to get them unless you order early.

ctbimmer wrote:

Also correct, since there is always a transitional period and the tires were in short supply we are allowing folks to “use up what they got”. Be forewarned that we might ask you to switch to R888’s or switch to PTE by the end of the year as tires become available and your excuses for not buying them run out  If you intend to compete at the Nationals be prepared to meet every letter of the rules at Mid-Ohio.

Hello Chuck and Jim

Thanks for those replies and that certainly makes a lot of sense. I have 2 sets of R888’s so it will not be a problem for me. I have not seen anything posted from anyone in MA…another scenaro for them is that a newby shows up with RA1’s that he bought used, I guess they will have to DQ him also, I guess they have plenty of racers so maybe that is not a consideration. I saw a post from someone in the SE saying that they bought R888’s and now do not have the $$ to run the CMP event, this is the kind of stuff that needs to be avoided and what yall said should cover that. I am sure that by the start of next season the 888’s will not be a problem. If I was starting out and had the choice between a $100 set of used RA1’s and $600 888’s it would suck if I couldnt take advantage of the cheap tires…

See yall at CMP, will be driving down of course.

Al

Chuck, thanks for making that sensible decision regarding using up RA1’s. I registered for CMP today. Until you made that call, I had already made the tough decision to stay at home even though I wanted to race. Now when I pass you at CMP, you may regret making that call!

I agree, thanks for making the right decision. I was waiting to decide on CMP since I have 2 sets of used RA1’s in good shape that I need to use and no $$ for brand new R888’s right now.

I registered a few days ago knowing that I may be fun running it but this works out great.

NASA SE FTW!!!
