Spec Exhaust?

#101

The bottom line was the point that I hope the series learns from this experience. I feel mistakes were made and that it might not be too late to correct them for the benefit of all. It’s not that a race car should have a cat… cars should have cats. And if the spec system had a cat or was dictated to be oem, the fields would not be split.

My own bottom line is I cannot trailer a car. Any car. I know I’m not alone in this regard. Where I had been hoping to get into SpecE30 and being able to contend, this specific rule and its dividing effect is a barrier for me I cannot build around. Not without a much larger investment than the cost of the spec exhaust.

Again, I hope the series learns from this experience. I will still be trying to build to SpecE30’s ruleset because I believe it is largely quite sound. I prefer formula-type drivers series for the equality of the cars and the challenge to the drivers. This still appeals to me about SpecE30 even if I’ll be carting my wheels and tires in the car to HPDEs to see how I measure up to you guys.

I really don’t understand where you are coming from. I started racing last year and my car still has a stock exhaust. I wasn’t running up front, but I wasn’t running last either. Moreover, I don’t think my exhaust had anything to do with where I was running.

Anyone heard from this guy yet?

That was on topic. The topic is exhausts.

And no, haven’t heard from him yet. I am putting another exhaust on my car instead. Can’t wait any longer, the season starts next week.

#105

Bill, Just curious, why are you going with an exhaust that will have to be changed again before June?

I emailed the guy about 30 minutes after Carter posted the original contact info…so I think I got in line early. My exhaust shipped out to California last week and the tracking number Paul gave me shows it arriving this Thursday.

Not sure why you wouldn’t just race with a stock exhaust. The rules allow for a stock exhaust, so if you want to race then come play - there is nothing in the way of you competing and more importantly having a great time.

I got a tracking number last week from Paul and mine is expected 2/1. But there is some great drivers in Norcal and I probably will not contend even with a spanky new spec exhaust.

Because my current exhaust is full of holes. If I hear from the Spec supplier before the end of the week, there is still a chance I can get the Spec exhaust on.

#109

Arrived yesterday. I guess I have a rare part in SpecE30. If you guys want to worship me, I’ll allow it. :stuck_out_tongue:

#110

Rob, maybe you should send yours to Bill since you already have a functioning exhaust on your car.

#111

If by “functioning” you mean missing 1/2 of it. The CAT was cut out long before I got the car and the exhaust is very rusted. If someone wants this exhaust the car is for sale.

#112

Steve, the Pink Panther is not Rob’s car–he’s building a new one.

Hmmm . . .

okay.

I emailed him shortly after you did and asked - “how much will it be with shipping and how shall I pay?” I have had ZERO response.

Dave,

I had to “bug” Paul with a follow-up e-mail. To my surprise he responded with an email telling me that the exhaust would be shipping the next day and that he’d get back with a total cost after it had shipped. Not what I’m used to…not having to pay first. Didn’t hear from him for a number of days…then I e-mailed him again to find out the status…that’s when I got a tracking number and total cost ($207) to ship it to California. He said I could pay by PayPal or use the old fashioned method…send him a check in the mail!

Anyway…that’s how the process worked in my case. Good luck.

B)

Good to hear.

I just “bugged” him. Hoping for a similar result.

#116

I emailed him 1/10 at 8:51 PM. No response or tracking number yet. Just sent the reminder e-mail to him. Looks like a nice setup. I removed the stock exhaust last weekend (the tailpipe on the stock exhaust fell off at Sebring - I can’t believe I wasn’t Black Flagged). There was black soot coming out of the front of the muffler where the 2 pipes lead into the muffler - I know it was not going to make another track day. It was whacking into the spare tire well on hard right handers. And the heat shield for the cat just disintegrated in my hands. Damn - that thing weighs a lot. I can weigh one vs. the other when it arrives, but it has to be a lot lighter!

I actually had to “bug” him to send me the total price after my exhaust arrived at my door yesterday. Paid him today with Paypal. I’m glad we’re an honest bunch.

I’ll let you know how the install goes in a couple of days. Some of you might actually beat me to putting it in. I am just getting around to pulling the rear end and doing the suspension.

What the hell?

So he stole my picture and is clearly trying to rip someone off. Time to call the Police?

What’s going to be funny as hell is when I call him tomorrow and demand he stop using my intellectual property.

#120

Probably has them on order - but not cool “borrowing” your picture. I doubt there is anyting police worthy going on here - but I’d call him on the photo thing.
