Hi, Do we have an absolute on the spec exhaust yet? I’m interested in spec for the cars that are NOT driven to the track. tx. Mark
Spec Exhaust?
Jan 10th is the due date for the new spec exhaust for trailered cars. The spec for non-trailered is out - stock.

Wait, what? Sometimes my car is trailered and sometimes it’s not. I guess this means I can run either config.
the way the rule is worded - you can only run stock if you drive the car to that race on public highways.

I love this series, I love this board, and I respect Carter and everyone who put this together.
But…the street/track exhaust rule is probably the dumbest thing I have ever read.
We actually need a rule that says if you choose to drive your car on the street, you MUST use a restrictive, heavy, OEM exhaust system? How is that making a level playing field? I just can’t wrap my head around that no matter which way I try to view it as helpful to someone. :S
hmmm, that is supposed to say that you MAY use the stock system and if you do it must be fully functioning - Oh, Carter … - it is there for those that have to undergo emissions checks where they look for the Cat. You are free to swap it in and out if you prefer.

So I have three weeks to order, ship, and install the exhaust before the first race… Cutting it a bit close aren’t we? I hope there aren’t any delays and they are ready to ship a bunch of these things out or I see a maelstrom of criticism over this thing.

What is on the car now? You don’t have to run the spec exhaust until June 1st 2008.
This is the problem for people building cars currently. He has the stock system on there now. I’m sure people building cars for this season don’t want to have to build an exhaust twice.
Then run the stock system, and then put the spec exhaust on when it becomes available, I guess I don’t see the problem unless you have no exhaust at all on the car or it is badly rusted or something. In which case you just have to wait for the spec exhaust.

World of sh*t.
Folks’r gonna bitch.
Open o’ can o’ whoopass.
Kiss my arse.
“mailstrom of criticism”, using an artful mispelling.
The stock exhaust, cat and muffler, are highly restrictive.
I’d hate to think that I just spent all the time, money, and energy to just build a car that will be down 5-10hp just because the powers that be can’t get the spec exhaust released in time for the first race and have to run the stock set up.
I’m running last year’s set up until everything is sorted anyway, but for those building cars, this stinks. . . Wait you may be onto something. . . . all new racers SHOULD run the stock system. Keep’um in the back as long as we can!

Whats your point? This basically only effects guys who have just built a car and are racing in the next month or so. So they have to be down on power for maybe 1 race, is that really a big deal? That will be the last of their concerns for their first few races anyway. Its not like they can’t race and if they are that worried about it they can gut the cat or quickly have some pipes welded in where the cat is. Any decent muffler shop can do that for about a $100. That assuming its that big a deal for 1 race

Why not give the organizers a break for once, it is obvious that Carter is swamped with work and what not and people bitching about the situation probably doesn’t help any. I believe the date given before was like January 10th, we haven’t even reached that date yet.

Exactly this probably only effects a small number of racers.

For those building cars it does not stink, either run with what you got or wait for the exhaust, or change it twice. Its that simple, stop making mountains out of mole hills.
We have a good series here it is a shame that people have to bitch about every little thing when Carter is working his ass off to make this series better. Lets keep the complaining down until there is something that is worth complaining about. We haven’t even reached the release date for the exhaust and people are complaining already. Just relax and don’t always think about yourself. And I’m not pointing the finger at anybody in this thread I just wanted to point out that I believe Carter is doing the best we can expect from anybody and maybe we should be a little more grateful and a little less selfish.
I agree.
For those with stock exhausts they can always whack off the muffler and weld in a couple of glass packs for the short term.

I do have a horse in this one (with Don). We both have new build cars with stock exhausts that are waiting for the new spec exhaust to run. We are both going to the track in 2 weeks (Winterfest at Sebring). If we really were worried, we’d do the glass pack thing for 15 bucks. I’m going to stick with stock, swap the exhaust to spec as soon as I can, and not complain in the mean time (oh, I’ll complain, but only because my wife is a bad cook - but that is another topic).
I am sure that the weight and hp penalty are not the deciding factor between the big prize money in Spec e30 and me - it is the loose nut behind the steering wheel.
And - Elephant 4 (Jack, I think) - I have never read a better paragraph than the last one in your last post. I hope folks don’t explode when the new exhaust comes out and it is not titanium with gold plating that weighs 2 pounds and adds 50 hp!
I don’t see any problem with a heavy exhaust. The heavier the better! If there’s a lower place on the vehicle to legally put ballast I’d like to know! I think I need to go dig my cat-back out of the metal bin where I tossed it before the recycler comes just in case I don’t get the Spec setup in time for VIR.
My car went down last May - and when we took it into the shop one of the first things I did was cut off the cats. So, I was ready to have my guy weld up an exhaust for me when I caught wind of the spec exhaust concept.
So for now, I am waiting. But to be fair, I have a lot of other work to finish, so its not as if I MUST have this exhaust now. And it is unlikely that my car will see a track any time before maybe the SE event at Road ATL in March.
Now, if its after 2-28 and I dont have an exhaust in my hands, maybe then I’ll bitch.
I suppose if worse comes to worse, I can get a cheap glasspack and some aluminized tubing and have something slapped together.
Having said all of that, If I were building and planning on racing in one of the early events, I might be getting a little edgy at this point.
