Spec E46 anyone??????

Get a jump on this new (well someday, maybe?)race league.

I have a very strong 2001 330ci that I need to sell to buy a automatic (for my daughters use). 2 doors (ci), 5 speed, 18" ZHP wheels, 99k miles and serviced by Motorsports connection. Needs new tires and a driver side window reg.

Let me know if you know ANYONE interested! $13,000.

Car is in Winston Salem, NC.

why not teach her to drive that one!

Worked on that and she can drive my E30 pretty well, but as a insurance guy, I know that teen drivers need as few distrations as possible, besides this is WAY to nice for her and WAY too powerful! She has a 99 328i and it’s going to her sister but it’s alot different then my 330ci.

Trust me, I do not want this to leave the family, but it’s either this car, my tow vehicle, my M Roadster or my e30 (not worth enough). So this E46 goes!

#4

Jeff, I think I’d rather her have a stick shift in her hand instead of a cell phone.

Jeff,

If I was in the market for another car (like I really need one with 5 already) I would jump on this car. I bought my wife a exact car 3 years ago for $24k. I am sick to see that the value has dropped so much. List this car on Bimmerforums and you should be able to sell it pretty quickly. Good luck!

#6

Steve, as her uncle I am worried that she would try to have the phone in one hand and the shifter in the other - only we are allowed to do that:laugh: .
Jeff, I know how you can keep the car in our family…:cheer:

It may not be that bad Ken. I got a good deal on this from a friend who wholesales some cars and he got it for me fairly cheap. If yours has sport seats it will do much better and like I said, the tires are HIS-ToR-RY!

Besides, I made my 17 year old drive my e30 daily driver last night and she did WAY better then last time and now she wants the E46. She spent sometime looking at what she could get for the money and the BMW wins again! So, it may be off the market before it’s even really on it!

BTW, Only 5 cars??? I keep 5 (3 e46, 1 e30 and a M roadster)at my house and then there are the race cars and "extra" e30’s spread around the Southeast! Of course, I have 3 (soon to be 4) drivers at home.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman.

Nicely done, Tower.

What’s wrong with Spec3?

Could be one of the best club racing classes out there in a few seasons…

Rain on the parade…ok.

Open, single adjustable shocks. You have now opened Pandora’s box. Just on that fact alone, let the spending games begin. You know, I can pay someone to make a single adjustable shock for me with custom tuned curves. I can also pay that guy to come to the track and take data. He then can make me a set of shocks for each track that I go to.

Add in open bars…solid steel…what kind of steel? Arm can be any length? diameter is open?

Flame suit on, but I’ll take a well set up suspension over a motor ANY day of the week.

springs/shocks will be spec, possibly mcs but it’s not nailed down yet. i agree about suspension vs motor, that’s why i’m specing something a couple of notches above the H&R/bilstein combo that se30 and spec3 uses. adjustable ride height is important, having to dick around with rubber spring pads to achieve proper corner balance is just babytown frolicks. motor will remain stock aside from a possible ecu reflash for parity, verification, higher redline, remove speed limiter, and provide a healthy a/f mixture across the board.

scratch the solid steel sways, i didn’t realize that several of the popular bars were in fact hollow. must be steel though and use factory mounting points though.

Don’t know what “mcs” are.

In terms of spec’ing something above what Spec E30 uses, it may not be necessary. Non-adjustable shocks with a spec spring with dyno curves that have published values is a great way to go.

Not entirely sure I’d want damper advice from someone who’s never heard of MCS and can’t use Google apparently. However… if you’re not spec’ing something above what Spec E30 uses, why bother with a more expensive car? Spec E30 is a great class, and there’s no need for another Spec class to compete with it for slow cars and great racing. Thus the Spec3 Dilemma.

Most of the feedback from people who are serious about a new class has been that the cars need to be a bit quicker, and have some crossover with other classes. That likely means an actual race quality suspension, which HR Race and Bilstein Sports are not.

Evan, crossover to other organizations…you bet!

I assume you are talking with a class sponsor like James Clay.Good luck and can it crossover to BMWCCA “sport” class.

Heck, I could build one of these too.

I like the concept and I am on board. suspension needs to be simple and not super adjustable IMO. also need to clean up the tranny rule. 5 speed would be preferable. if you can run the 6 speed it will be a disadvantage to have the 5 speed. IE any roval races. 6 speeds have good value in the used market while 5 speeds dont.

we are looking at the crossover aspect, although it remains to be seen if that can be done “cleanly”. bmwcca rules are based on power/weight not platform so making one ruleset that is compatible with both AND accomplishes what i want with se46 isn’t as easy as it sounds. and yes we have already talked with clay (and others).

there is no transmission rule, you are free to run either the five or six speed box, both have the same 2-5 ratios so other than a small weight difference they are effectively the same. with a 3.46 diff it’ll be geared for 138 mph at redline in fifth so sixth is effectively useless.

Well that’s good to hear, because I’m not sure I can afford to build one of these. I might be renting one from you for a while!

The suspension thing is probably the toughest to sort out. The leading idea of MCS Singles would be very capable, and minimally adjustable (just a single-adjustable, non-remote) but a bit on the pricey side.
