Mike’s getting some good press…
Cool!
I’m 98% positive that I was on the track with that Cobalt at Buttonwillow on December 16. It was a SpeedTrialUSA event. While I was reeling in a Honda, it blew right by me like I was just sitting there. Fast car with a fast driver. Maybe Mike Skeen was driving it that day?
Anyway, good luck Mike! You’re living the dream!
I just wanna know, Mike, who is this NICE GUY that some people like to see win?
Anybody got any idea when number 2 is on? Speed’s website is pretty bad!
With the key that this is television and therefore ENTERTAINMENT, it is interesting to see how the producers have positioned Hollywood as the nice guy (wow, I could be a producer as I’ve got a grasp of the obvious too) . Heck, as you watched Tommy Kendal, well Tommy “had to make a phone call to line up an old sponsor” for the Skeen-mobile.
So, according to Hollywood,“Nice guys race fast, clean, and folks like to see a nice guy finish first.” Since that is all we got to hear from Mike…Well I can only assume as much. How’s that for speculation?
I’m looking forward to the next show.
Everyone likes to see a nice guy finish first.

Well I waited patiently for 1 hour hoping to see some actual racing…I guess this is more reality TV than a race show. Oh’well maybe the next installment.
I thought I saw a quick shot of M. Davidson during the show, but couldn’t tell if Mike D. made the “big-show”???
Thought it was really interesting to see the carts used out of the gate to cut the contestants. Really tough on those who had never been in a cart. Mike S. can you shed some light on how much practice everyone got in the carts before the two timed laps. The show made it sound like you strapped in, took 3/4 lap warm up and then 2 hot laps.
Keith
I have trouble with these reality shows I wish they’d show the stuff that they ‘consider’ boring, or give more details. Just like people have mentioned it would be nice to know who finished where, more info on the carts (cars), etc. Instead of hearing 17 guys say “I’m the best driver”.
It was really cool to see Skeen and Mike on tv though, especially since it looks like Skeen is doing / going to do well. Makes me feel not so bad about getting beat up on now.
Was surprised to see (if you look on the BF thread) that some of these guys aren’t what I’d consider “amateurs”.
The first episode is all “set up” to the rest of the season. There’s no way you can tell the whole story in 1 hour. I don’t watch a lot of TV… but I have seen a lot of reality shows. Partly because that 90% of what’s on TV these days, but also because part of my job requires me to be up on popular culture.
I’m sure there will be plenty of racing to come. But this isn’t a tv show about racing… it’s a show about racers.
IMO: the guys who’s shooting/producing this show has really done a great… he’s just set the stage.
Jim, I went over to the bf.c site and read the posts about the show. The resume of talent for the show gives me a greater appreciation for Skeen’s talent.Mike Davidson must have had some bad luck in the karting competition, as he can pedal a car really well too.
Mike D, can you comment now that one episode is complete? Let’s hope Skeen did well.

I think last year’s overall winner also sat the pole in the circle track at the start, did he not?
Hmmm . . . a good omen?
Yeah I get the reality tv deal, and as far as these things go the show is well done. It just isn’t my thing. I get over it because a) Skeen et al are on, and b) nothing else any better on!
I do find it ironic that one of the ads or promos states “No Luck is involved” or something like that, but then they’re basing a lot of this on stuff I think is subjective like “character”, “interviews”, etc.
After finding out that one of the dudes is a former ALMs test driver or whatever, Skeen is representing himself pretty well.
