Say it Ain't SO! VIR is FULL!

#1

I spent Saturday in the garage getting car #60 all ready for the first big event at VIR! Decided it was probably time to officially sign up for the event…

OH NO! The website says everything is full… SPRINT, Enduro, and HPDE! This is terrible news…I guess I’ve learned another lesson on the art of procrastination.

Keith, get on the waitlist - last year, I remember that spots for the enduro opened up (it was a matter of consolidating pit space).

Yeah… I am on the list too. This means if I do not get in, I will miss the trophy ceremony :frowning:

This is a unique weekend. They are running all the sprint cars together so the group got full. Sean, do you know why it’s different from a regular weekend? I know that the enduro is the only racing event on Sunday but I don’t understand why Saturday can’t be a regular race day.

If we were racing in the Autobahn Group, we could get at least three more (that I know of) Spec E30 cars racing.

If you guys don’t get in, come to the track anyway and cheer-on your fellow Spec E30 racers.

Also, Carter Jr’s Indian Guides group will be there (about 10 dads and 10 6-year-olds) and I promised a few of the Dads a ride in a car. If someone has a passenger seat and harness in his Spec E30 car, I would appreciate you giving a one or two lap ride in the instructor group.

We will have a passenger seat in our car. But i’m not sure if I would be allowed to give someone a ride or not (assuming I pass the comp school in the first place).

i was disappointed to find out i am on the waiting list too…how can you be competitive if the sanctioning body doesnt allow to race? this is for points correct?

#7

OK guys here is the deal.
Carter is correct that this is a special event and unique compared to the rest of the season.
Saturday is comprised of HPDE1,2,3,4 sessions, sprint practice, qualifying, and race.
Enduro qualifying is also Saturday.
Sunday is also HPDE1,2,3,4 like usual, and then the Enduro itself.
Since there is only one sprint race group on Saturday, all race classes are in that one group and the number of cars limitation is based on how many cars per mile we can put on the track at one time. That limit was reached.

I vote for the HPDE Newbee’s to loose out on a session and get the racers on track!

Well it isn’t the sessions it is the amount of cars in the race…too many want to enter for the amount of spaces available. It is like a sold out concert…all the seats are gone and nothing will create more except cancellations

Mo 30:

Everyone won’t do every race so you can probably still do well in the points if you finish well in the remaining races this season.

If I can’t find a Spec E30 car for rides I’m sure I can get them a ride with an instructor. And only a couple of the Dads want rides so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Thanks,

My Point isn’t the amount of cars but availible track time for racers. If we are stuck with one big monster race on Saturday it’s going to be a mess. If HPDE 1 gives up one of its run times and the racers divide into two groups and take that spot.

Or

Move the Enduro qualifiying from Sat to Sun and allow the racers to race in two groups on Sat.

The point here is that the sanctioning body should accomodate racers over HPDE.

I’m sorry if this is an ignorant question, but how do I know if i’m on the waiting list or not for the race?

#14

Well, I assume that you would have been contacted by Sean or Chris if you were waitlisted.

Of course, we’d know for sure… if they’d post the drivers list more than a week before the event. :pinch:

Hi Carter,

I’ll be at VIR and will surrender my car to a racer or instructor to provide rides assuming the timing works out. I’m running HPDE3, The car still has a passenger seat (racing shell and 5 pt harness just like the driver side…

The way you know you are on the wait list is if you emailed me and I replied that you were on the list.

Brain,
Chris has though this over many times, and we have discussed how to juggle everything to try to split the sprint…the issue is practice sessions and qualifying sessions. There simply isn’t that much time in the day. I suppose the suggestion could be made to eliminate one of the HPDE’s for the weekend but that would probably increase the cost to the racers since the track costs what it costs…This event is a difficult one to put on and believe me, we try to accomodate everyone. This event has been open to register for for over 2 months and everyone knew it was going to be a points race. We wish the day was 15 hours long and the track 4 miles.

Sean,

I feel your pain…I know what it’s like to try to squeeze ten pounds to "wants" into an 8 pound bag to "haves". And I understand that I don’t have the complete picture as you and Chris do…It’s just frustrating since racers always have things to sort out with their cars right up to the last minute. Thus the reason for late registrations.

That said…

For me VIR full course is the premiere event of the year and I’d happily pay more and have fewer HPDE guys and more racers spread out into different track sessions. (maybe next year will be different)

Want you to know that I’m not trying to "poke the bear", just frustrating that racers and friends here in VA beach might not be able to run after months of preparation.

thanks for the feedback

The drivers list is not the easiest thing to produce. I have to pick a point in time where all the information is static. The car numbers, need to be sorted out, people cancel, people get in off the wait list…it is a huge pain. I have been working on the event since 8:30 this morning.it is 10:15 PM now. I am trying to get people contacted for the HPDE wait list to take spots from cancellations and I have to be sure no 2 cars on the track in ANY session have the same number.Every new entrant changes things. This is a huge job. With that said,I always read this board, at the very least every other day, but usually several times a day. I always answer email within 24 hours but usually much quicker than that. Feel free to call me even if you have a question.
We have no secrets as to how this all works.

No problem and no offence taken. My best suggestion is to gamble that you need to cancel and sign up early regardless…Racers have no cancellation fee so there is nothing to lose. This is the premier event and hence the problem. Our region runs great events and combined with how cool VIR is, the demand exceeds the supply and it always will.
