Did you notice we are not running the whole course? Probably better off, but in a SE30 at 5000 ft, those straights are going to be reeeealy long!

#3

Just the front straight, and yes it is really long. The second longest straight gets taken out in the outer loop configuration.

I personally hoped they would have used the full track. The reasons for using the outer loop though do make sense: easier to learn, more laps, quicker to clear the track…

Hope to see you all at Miller!

Having run both 4.5 and 3.0 I would have love the 4.5, but it creates some logistical issues given a lap is 3:30 seconds for cars of our speed. The 3.0 is still long and fast, but HP is not everything as there are many corners you will need to take fast to get a good lap. This means driver skill make up for lack of hp. In fact since there is only one “slow corner” maintaining momentum through the medium/high speed corners is key.

Entry fee goes up in 4 days, pretty pathetic showing by the Spec E30 guys. Where is everyone from Cali?

I signed up beacsue I’m tired of not having anyone to race against in my region. I think I’ll buy a Spec 944 if this continues

#7

I’ll sign up Friday, I’m from the Socal region.
Tired of not having competition? Join the club and move to GTS.
I don’t know what’s up with the Socal region drivers, but I’ve been racing since 07 and not a single car added to the roster since then, but the Norcal region has over 20 cars. I guess Socal drivers prefer something more “expensive”, like unlimited GTS class.
Never drove at Miller, but from the videos seems like a wonderful track with plenty of space for overtaking (or been overtaken, ha!), and three miles a lap it’s a loooong lap.
See you there!!!

Coloradomark, how do you handle the fact of not having competition and drive to the limit instead of cruising like I do?

#8

It’s refundable, so I’m in!

Plane ticket? Check (yay SkyMiles).
Camping pass? Check.
Registration? Check.
Car transport? Hmmmm. Need to do some serious horsetrading…

BETO, I’m not sure I get to the limit. I keep track of lap times and play with whom I can in the run groups I’m in. There’s usually someone around to play with, a Spec Miata or a 944 that’s not competing for a podium, or sometimes a honda challenge car that doesn’t have anyone to play with either. But it is frustrating not having any basis of comparison on car preperation or driver abilities.

Oh, and I did Time Trials for a few years, so I’m used to it!

Ok, that’s what I do as well, but last time raced hard against other cars not in my class I ended up on the wall or being “pushed” out of the track, so I stopped doing that.
I did TT a couple of times, but not what I wanted, just like HPDE.

Only 4 e30’s!??

registration’s

I spoke to Walter from Valley Motorwerks and he said a he had a number of cars coming from Cali. If there aren’t at least 10 I’ll probably cancel.

#14

Me and a buddy are planning to run. I think Steve signed up Friday.

Sorry I’m a bit late on the update as the July 1st date has passed but if you are thinking of doing Nationals I would definitely sign up this month as the full price goes into effect August 1st. Late entry fee starts hitting after September 1st.

What? Only six cars as of today 7/2/9?
What is it about Spec E30 in the west coast?
The 944’s have their own race group, and some are even supersizing for GTS1, c’mon guys. Is the economy really that bad for us and not them?
I’m thinking of supersizing and battle with the 944’s as well, anybody else who wants to defend the BMW colors in GTS1?

I might switch to GTS1. Roughly how much ballast do you need to add to be GTS1 legal in an otherwise-Spec-E30?

I supersized to PTE mostly for practice/track time purposes. It would be fun to run with some of the same cars in both groups though.

The power to weight break for GTS1 is 18.50. So for a Spec E30 with a min weight of 2750 you would need

2750/18.5 = 148.6 hp

So for every hp over 148 you would need to add 18.5 lbs. So if you had 155 hp at the wheels you would need to weigh 155*18.5 = 2867.5 lbs

#19

Wow. Robinson would need to weigh like 3,000 lbs. Of course, if he put all his $4 trophies in the trunk he would be close.

I think I will run GTS2 uncompetitively and not mess with adding and removing 100 lbs of ballast every session.
