Tough day for several drivers. David Herrington’s clutch came apart on the first or second lap of practice. Seth Grace and David swapped it on the Pantas/NASA Southeast hauler lift in about 4 hours.
You’ve read about the crash on lap one at the Keyhole.
From my position - I got a good standing start and gained a position. Going into the Keyhole, I was on the inside of Michael Osborne when the two cars came sliding though the grass, to my right. I saw them in my curved rearview mirror and was hoping they wouldn’t hit me…but one caught my right rear very hard. My left elbow hit the inside panel of the driver door and is a bit sore. It still works though.
I got the car going again and took it a bit easy, not knowing the condtion of the car. It felt fine so I got back up to speed. After about three laps, we got the double yellow and cruised around for a couple more laps. We then got the checker. A disappointment for sure.
I feel for the guys that lost cars but I’m hoping we’ll have some clean racing tomorrow. After four NASA Championships, it has become very clear that staying clean and legal makes a huge difference in having success at this event.
