Is a SpecE30 Driver Faster Than a Redneck?

My apologies to the more serious Chumpcar racers who also don’t want to see the short version of CMP for a 1 or 3 lap race. B)
I think I’d take an AWD car rather than a heavy muscle car to be able to get the power down on that course.
I am fighting wheelspin there in a 200Hp s2000
Looking at how they coverred the course with about 4 camera stations I think thats a big part of the track choice.
Not knowing Turn1 made it interesting we only had about 4 laps practive before we raced.
The rednecks (ahem camaro) had no excuse for mistakes in T1 though - they’d been there running an event for the past week.
Dan
Not exactly. the weekend before we ran the other half of the track. That turn one in the show was brand new to us, most had never been around it other than our practice laps like you guys had. Me, in the Fairlane, no excuse, other than the lambo already had me by 4 car lengths by the time we got to the first turn so running thru the sand trap made it easy for the producer to cut that run short and move on in the time he had for show. I won’t use the excuse that car was set up for dragracing and will not turn, I will just say I ran out of talent.
Guys, you are way over thinking this TV show. Take a chill pill and enjoy the humor. For those of you that have to prove your manhood and think you are so much better on track, we have an event there in April. It is not part of the TV show, but the same rednecks will be there just to have a track day. It will be the full course on Saturday and some autocross time on Sunday. It is April 20-21. I know some of you have all the answers to life’s problems. I have no control over how the TV show is produced, I will however be more than happy to compare my times in my charger to yours if you got a set and will come show us how bad you really are. For more on that event go to americanstreetcarseries (dot) com and look at 2013 events, then Detroit Speed Southern Slam.
Stop talking all the smack and come show us. Then you will have all the bragging rights you deserve.
Who’s in??
Hahaahaa, Bill’s rattling the cage!
Any takers?! It’s an opportunity to put the rednecks in their place!

LOL Anthony. As they can see, anyone here should be able to beat me right? However, they aint seen me in the charger yet, just a borrowed pushing pig called a fairlane.lol
I hope some of you guys will show up. Kershaw is a huge, fun track when running the whole track and we welcome all comers, especially those that know they can beat us. B)
I’ll be there bill!
I reckon my s2k would max out about a 1.48 on street tires on the full course but we’ll see whatsup on the auto-x
don’t be having a 1/4 mile drag to the first cone though!

I will be happy to drive your charger and run faster lap times. Showing me on TV that you know how to spend more money doesn’t say much.
Watched two episodes (was looking for Anthony, but didn’t see him). Somehow the producers managed to pick the most giant douchenuggets possible to race the imports (import drivers). And pitting $70k+ resto mod machines against used subarus and M3’s with bolt ons doesn’t spark a whole lot of interest. Been around those cars for a while now and know how much time/money went into those cars.
I will agree that I was totally blown away by the quality of some of those cars though. Hardly redneck by any stretch of the imagination. I also highly doubt any of those “rednecks” actually built those cars.

Well, the charger will be there and you are more than welcomed to drive it. I am 55, not 30 and have never claimed to be a great driver, I do have fun though and enjoy track time.
I promise you that Brian Finch built his cars, I built the charger, and several other build their rides, so don’t assume we are all check writers. I have been building my cars since way before you were around would be my guess. I was a drag racer, just moved over to track when I started doing events.
LOL Dan, it will be the big track on Saturday. Actually the track is setting up the autocross so whatever they normally do will be that layout, it is going to be their regular setup on Sunday.
Guys the whole point of what we do, and the TV show for that matter is getting out and having fun. At the end of the day during filming most everyone had dinner together and we all had good time sharing. Both sides respected the other group and their cars. Yes, it is a TV show, Yes there was competition, but the end of the day it was all fun and most everyone went away happy. Some say there is too much redneck added, some want more duct tape (just google RUfaster than a Redneck and read the different forums). No one 30 TV show is ever going to please the whole world, but it does bring attention to all of us and show that some of us (both sides) do more than sit around with a can of wax any given Saturday at a stupid car show.
Again, the challenge is there. You can sit behind your keyboard and talk the talk, or you can come out and show us that you are faster than a redneck. I have no doubt most of you are faster/better than I am, but I will put my money on Brian Finch any race. I haven’t seen anyone beat him yet.

As I said, I enjoyed some of the nice older mod cars. Absolutely if this ever makes its way up around Michigan, I WILL take you up on that (I am a complete driving whore). I already backed out of quite a bit of racing SpecE30 this year and couldn’t see the justification budget wise to come down there. Not sure if you are on the right forum asking guys to come out from behind the keyboard. Almost every single person on this board is regularly racing wheel to wheel or building a car. Hardly sitting in mom’s basement furiously typing hate mail.
In fact, I generally enjoyed the redneck side more than the import side. Again, the turnoff is the ultra expensive resto mods. I noticed a roots blower kit on one of the cars. I know that kit was more expensive than the car it was competing against. Some of those cars look like they belong at a Barret Jackson. Kudos to you guys if you really, honestly, built those from scratch.
Ryan,
“My” episode will be on this coming Monday, March 4th, at 9pm! I’m in the black E46 M3.
Brian is the only one I’ve seen so far who can really drive (no offense to the others). That said, I would love to go head to head in the same car and see what’s what
Well done Anthony. Lot’s of camera time for you.
The guy jumps the curb, hits your right rear, and accuses you of not knowing the line? Amazing.
Too bad you did not pick the Mustang first. You could have beaten that guy and certainly could have beaten Bo Duke!
Anyway, thanks for the entrtainment.
Don

Thanks Don! I definitely picked WRONG. I was told that Camaro (is that what it was? Lol) was their fastest car. I’m not sure if it was, overall, but it certainly was the fastest in that group. By a long shot. The owner told me after I picked it that he has $200k+ in it and asked me not to hit it. Lol. They put their best driver in, Brian Finch, to put me down. I took a look down the inside of Turn 3 on Lap1, but it was really just to see if he would make room or not. I backed out of it, but did get pretty darn close to him.
Here is my full assessment on the contact with the new Camaro of Yancy Johns. I must say that he apologized yesterday before the show. We are cool. He was being told to react to the impact and that’s how it came across.
The video they showed was deceiving since it started from the rear 3/4 view. I was fully ahead - with a gap- when I went to the brakes, since he had braked earlier. You can see me shoot ahead, then you see him creep back up because he realized he had been out-braked and didn’t want to give up the position. I was watching him in my rear view mirror when I was braking. I saw him creep, but he was not beside me at all when i turned in. Cut to the side view and you will see that gap. Look more closely and you will see that I’m already fully leaned over and turning (done braking) while he is still in a full nose-dive. That’s not “position” by any rule set I’ve ever seen.
I knew it was a high-risk move against someone I had no idea if I could trust. I left him enough room that he could have still stuck on the inside if he put 2 wheels way in the grass (and slowed down enough to hold the line). I had 1 shot at getting ahead since that first race was only 1 lap. I took the risk and won, but am paying for it.
I’m hoping for a revenge episode in season 2. If there is a season 2
That was way koo! You got slapped by a redneck, beat by a redneck and your name spelled wrong -nationwide. LOL
No, really, I enjoyed it. Of course it was hyped and hokey. That was the format. But the racing looked fun. You certainly got screwed on the car ( horsepower) you had to go against. Great driving as always, dude.
