Is a SpecE30 Driver Faster Than a Redneck?

#1

The question in the title does not include SpecE30 drivers who ARE rednecks!
Tune in to SPEED’s new show, R U Faster Than a Redneck, to find out!
I’m an import contestant - in a BMW - on one episode, but I really can’t say much more than that!

It will be goofy and the rednecks pull out a bunch of shenanigans, but I will attest that the racing on track was REAL. It was filmed on the short course at CMP earlier this year.

We are hearing that the first episode should air on SPEED on Feb 22nd, after the NASCAR truck race. They are obviously trying to capture their target audience

Well that basically rules out most of our region since we walk around with no shirts on!

Anthony,

I thought you WERE the redneck :woohoo:

Looking forward to the episode.

I was chasing one of the redneck cars (Dodge Charger maybe?) in a test & tune session at CMP and watched him lock up all 4 wheels at Turn 8 and go straight off in a cloud of tire smoke. Didn’t hurt his car, but it was dramatic.

Anthony, congratulations in being chosen as an “import contestant.”

No doubt that our Spec E30 National Champion will represent the import marquee well. You’ve got the talent…or do the producers of the show let you use the talent?

I remember the “Set-Up” show that helped with Mike Skeen’s career. There was little he could say about the show: its format was about all he could tell us.

So, wat is the story behind “Redneck” ?

Hey Robert,
Thank you for the kind words. I don’t think that this show will give me anything resembling the kind of exposure that Mike justifiably received from Setup. For one, the show is not that serious and not focused on drivers’ talents. Secondly, I’m on only one episode, by the nature of their format, rather than an entire series. Realizing that this is not about racers vs. racers, I played up the race driver stuff to appear to be as much of a douche as possible. Please, all, take me with a grain of salt on the show! They needed to love me or hate me, so I went with the “love to hate me”. God, I hope they don’t show any of my submission video.

I can tell you that these were bracket-style races with the tuners going 1-on-1 with the rednecks in a 3-lap battle. They tried to pair contestants and rednecks of similar speed for each episode, just to keep things exciting. Along with that, the tuners were grouped by similar speeds for each episode. 8 episodes total. The trick was that the top 2 tuners in each episode get to pick the cars they get to go against in the penultimate round. In the final round - for the $10k prize - the redneck car is chosen by the producers.

I’m sure they’re going to play up the redneck off-track shenanigans more than the racing itself. So, just watch and take it for what it is and hopefully it will be worth a laugh!

Cheers,

Well gang, we know the talent that Anthony has, and just as we lived vicariously through Skeen’s driving in “Set-up” , I’ll be tuned in to watch Anthony.

Something tells me that the redneck characters were ringers?

What sez the spec e30 audience?
Speculate…

Yeah, ringers or stunt drivers. The production company / network ceratinly could not risk having real “Bubbas” with no experience take their clapped out Camaros out there an cut em loose.

Anthony playing a “douchey racer” . . . that’s a stretch! :woohoo:

Apparently you’ve never dive bombed him into a corner and taken him out. He doesn’t like that too much. :silly:

#11

I doubt I’ll ever get the chance!

The redneck drivers were largely designated drivers. However, IDK what level of professionalism these guys came from. The “Mullet Mafia” is comprised largely of business owners in the industry. Year One, Detroit Speed, etc.
At least one guy drove his own car. You SE guys might know him… its a green current-gen Challenger and he races in NASA.

#13

I did an episode in my S2000

#14

Sweet! Hmm… I don’t even remember an S2000 there. What color was it?

#15

like this one:

you weren’t in a specE30 were you i think I know what car it was

#16

Oh, I think I recognize it now. I think I’ve seen your car at Mid-Ohio. You must know Jason Kohler.

No, I was not in a SpecE30.

#17

yes! i hope the redneck show turns out to be funny I guess we’ll find out on the 22nd

#18

Saw the previews (how can you miss it if you’re watching Daytona 24). Anthony - was that you getting slapped in the preview?

#19

I was thinking the same thing

#20

yeah. This was in reaction to our incident on the track that he thought I was at fault for.
He out-braked himself and plowed me during our race. The earliest frame of video I have seen so far shows me fully leaned over and turning while he is in a full nose-dive with his front bumper barely eclipsing my rear. When I hit the brakes, he was in my rear-view mirror. He came off the brakes partially and then didn’t leave himself enough room. He never got beside me by turn-in.
