Two SE30 weekends and two crashes.
Same story–goofed the apex, droped a wheel on exit, hit wall.

Dude, how did you end up there? I always figure turn 10 @ Putnam is about the only place with a real chance of Armco trouble.
Sorry about your luck.
Such a hard hit and no sheetmetal to absorb energy That could have been bad.
Dang what a bummer. I’m sorry dude.
Thanks guys. @Ranger: my 944 buddy hit that barrier a couple years ago (its there to protect us from Joey Handing a drainage ditch). When it happened, he said he did what he could to hit it head on to have more cushion (he ended up doing a slow motion end over end roll). As I was sliding accross the grass, I was trying to remember what he said he did to get the car pointed right, and then realized I was along for the ride. Funny how that split second can take so long!
@Ryan: Sore neck that night, but it was gone by the morning. Last night I was laying on my bed and crossed my legs and found a real tender spot on my foot where it hit the cage.
We know the front tower was moved alittle. Cant be sure about the rear subframe mount. As to my frame of mind (see what I did there?), I suppose its a good thing that I took the car straight to the body guy last night.
Halo seat in your future? In installed mine just before my first (of 3) crashes last year. That first crash, my first in 5yrs of racing, was a side impact crash so my head smacked the halo. As luck would have it, my HANS helmet stud pulled right out of the helmet. The stud turned out to be counterfeit.
Lots of crashes happening, not too many fires. Go sit in some halo seats and see how much they impede your exit.
It has come to my attention that my video provides a good teaching moment about safety. Who knows what I did wrong?
I watched the video a couple more times. That’s when I caught it.
It’s quite unsafe to crash.
Seriously tho, I dunno. Let go of the steering wheel and cross your arms?
Assume the crash position be bending forward and kissing your ass good-bye?
Turn towards the camera and say laconically “well, this is going to sting”.
You took your gloves off while still “trapped” in your car. You know the post crash calm silence in the cabin was a little eerie. No wild gesticulations, no practicing bosun’s mate vocabulary, no repeated use of multi-function profane expletives. I think you’re an android.
Ding ding ding. But you cheated.
Got a nice little email from the RD and the RD reminding me that removing my gloves on a hot track was a nono. Someone else (SM friend) got dinged for removing helmet in hot pits. Keep that safety stuff on at all times in the hot areas!
Oh, and I gave up cursing accidents after my first one 5 years ago. Doesn’t make the situation any better. Also helps that now I REALLY only drive cars I can afford to throw off a cliff.

I don’t have a voice left after a track weekend but that’s usually due to fighting Sunday drivers on the way home. Hey look a race car. let match his speed and drive in his blind spot until we can box him in behind the slowest car on the highway.
Is this a quiz or are you trying to figure out why your crashed?
I think you may have just carried a bit too much speed into turn 2. Did you lift after you dropped two wheels off and started correcting? It’s easy to say this after the fact, but you should have just exited track left with both feet in. That’s much harder to do when you are trying to avoid spinning… I’m surprised and a bit freaked out by how fast your car snapped around.

Read up above, I’m talking about taking of my gloves.
As for the crash, you can see that I was way early on apex. At the time, I didn’t feel like I blew it and should just open up my hands and drive off. I thought I was all good until it snapped. I think I just dropped the rear in the rut and it caught the wheel. There was no opportunity to give it up.

I guess I’m a little slow on the jokes sometimes… Reference the early apex, I guess I do it wrong every time because I didn’t think you were that early!
