Windows not working after installing Cool shirt cooler. Not that they are related, but that’s the only thing I modified. pump is connected to lighter cable.
Fuse is fine.
What else??
I’m leaving tonight and windows don’t roll up!!
HELP!!!

Did you reset the circuit breaker - right side of steering wheel in dash next to flasher?

#3

Do you have the ‘safety’ switch pushed in?

There is a black button that I’ve accidently pushed in, it keeps the windows from going up.

#4

I don’t have any switches, it’s stripped.
Circuit braker?

#5

It is plain looking rectangular button with a red ring around the base - just push it in hard to reset

#6

OK, I’m not home, so when I get home I’l try.
You think this will take care of it? Why did this happen? I’m not very good with electrical stuff, I hate it.

#7

No, there is no button in the dash, nothing that resembles what you describe.
I don’t understand, the windows were working just fine.
Do you have pics of the button you are referring to?

#8

No picture. It is in the panel above the radio cutout, with the defroster, hazard switches. I think there are spaces for 4 rectangular switches. It can get tripped if you try to roll up both windows at the same time or if one of your motors is working poorly and increases amperage on the circuit.

You can always roll them up by hand. You should be albe to put an allen wrench in the motor and hand crank them up. If your door panels are still on just remove the round cap that sits right where the window motor is located, behind that there should be a black gromet that you remove to hand crank the window up.

My passenger window quit working long ago, and this is how I get my window up and down.

hope this helps

they stopped making the round cutout in the door panel at some point in production.

No cutout in the panel. Can I remove the round plastic panel from the motor and try by hand?
I don’t see any switches. Is not a relay, is it? I’ll take a pic tonight.

You should still be able to pull the little black grommet off the motor and put an allen wrench in there to crank it up. If you still have your tool kit from the trunk the allen wrench should be with it(be careful not to strip it though). I can also get mine to work by just tapping the handle of a screwdriver on the bottom of the motor as I hold the switch you might want to try that. If all else fails new motors are not terrible I think you can get them from the euro depot for $40, these motors do fail, but not usually both at once, but it’s not impossible

In some models the circuit breaker is a rectangular button to the right of the window buttons on the center console. If you try using the allen wrench make sure you don’t strip it. As Patton says "Ask me how I know"

thought I had posted this earlier …

have a look at the Owner’s Manual at:

http://jon.bimmerfest.com/bulletins/e30_manual.pdf

pg 31 shows the two buttons on the center console (on some cars) that act as circuit breaker or to interrupt window operation (kid proofing).

pg 24 center pic two arrows show the other place (along this row) that the circuit breaker has been placed in some cars.

OK, this is what I have

This is the button (second from the left)?

I think there was a button on the center console to the right above the window switch, like shown on page 31 arrow 2. I’ll take another look tonight.
Damn! I hate electrical problems!!
Thank you guys for your help

#17

That is why mine looks like - second from left. Ed

#18

I thought mine was located near the power window switches on the console… Maybe it was an early/late kinda change?

#19

Criag - I believe you are correct if you have a 2 door. The 4 doors had it in the dash - at least in our cars ('87). Vic - if you put those guages in - did you leave the circuit breaker intact and stuff it behind the dash?
