Now it is my turn. Here’s the video from Sunday’s race: http://www.vimeo.com/3169075

Comments, questions and criticism are welcome. Unfortunately, my camera cut off after a hard run through the gators a few laps in. But the video includes footage of me running right behind Canterbury during his tank slapper. I don’t know if it is clear from the video, but there was slight contact that left a rub mark on his ‘big bumper’ car’s rubber strip. Based on the andgle of his car at impact, I don’t think I sent him around but I want other opinions. He and I talked about it after the race and we’re cool.

There is a little treat from qualifying at the end of the video. Unlike Skeen, this weekend’s polesitter is human. :stuck_out_tongue:

When I hit the link it says that your video is “private”…Can you make it public?

#43

Fixed. Sorry - vimeo n00b.

Steve, Hard to say, but it looks like the rub may have caused him to come out of the throttle. Coming out of the throttle at that point can cause the rear end to come around.

A non-racer comment;

It looks like there was a slight contact at 4:37 as both cars are rounding the T2 apex. After that both cars settle down and continue toward T3.

Steve D. backs off on the inside as Steve C. continues to try to carry the speed on the outside while leaving the room on the inside. The speed and the lack of space may have been too much as the back end loosens up slightly at 4:41 and then runs out of track and hits the gators at 4:42 which rotates the car.

It looks like racing to me.

#46

You guys have better eyes than me. I do not see how he had any significant impact on that spin. Looked to me like it just got loose and came around (much like Jim at the ‘rainbow’ bars).

There was no contact going through T2. Steven’s car (as opposed to Steve’s car, or the other Steve’s car) hit the apex curbing in T2 which pitched it toward me a little, but there was room between us.

Just to clarify, the “rub” that occurred took place when Canterbury was at about a 45 degree angle to my car, which was pointed straight down “the line.”

You can see from the foot cam I was trying to back out of the gas and/or brake enough to let him gather it up. I just wish I had backed out more. Then again, if I hadn’t nudged him further left, I might have been in the exact wrong place when his car came back toward driver’s right.:frowning:

My comments from the weekend:

Friday - Enduro was fun and good practice for a weekend of racing.

Saturday - Qualy revealed that my car was finally set up right. New master cylinder, removing factory eccentric trailing arm bushings, a new tire pressure gauge, and an alignment added up to a well handling car. For the race, I got a very good run out of T1 at the start and tapped Brandon Smith and spun him. That certainly makes me much less enthusiastic about my P2 finish.

Sunday - Steve D’s video tells part of the story. Chuck’s video will tell more, and I’ll post my video as soon as I can find the time to upload it. My perspective is that the tap from Steve D did not make a difference in the outcome. I made a mistake by carrying too much speed at the exit of T3, got sideways, went across the track, caught the car, hit the brakes, slowed dramatically and left Chuck no where to go and no time to react. My car is fixable and my damage is purely cosmetic (aside for the rear taillight).

My overall weekend summary is that while my laptimes were finally where I wanted them to be and I got to lead the Sat race and get a podium finish, I’m not really proud of my driving or my judgements. My apologies to Steve D., Brandon, and Chuck.

Racing has the highest highs and the lowest lows of any sport I’ve ever participated in.

Steven

#1, Canterbury clearly does not have a “big bumper” car.

#2, the contact made no difference.

#3, I’m glad someone got video of Geegar crapping his pants.

Steve D,
Nice vid… at what RPM does your shift light come on?

#51

9500

#52

That’s not a shift light. It’s my “nitrous on” warning.

I think it is set for 5900 and according to the AutoMeter tach my ecu redlines at 6400.

If I went all Jim Robinson on the car, I would get a conditional shift light that illuminates for the same time in each gear. Being a budget racer, I have to settle for setting the shift light so I have enough warning for 2nd gear starts. That makes it a bit long for the 4-5 shift.

Steve D.

PS - I am going to try the sequential ShiftI lights soon.

PS - I was typing my post while Jim posted his. Which makes mine even more delightful, if I do say so myself.

A little experiment of mine. Sunday’s video both front and back views toggle-capable. The video player has not been battle tested, so I’m not 100% convinced it will play correctly for everyone. The videos are sitting on my server, as opposeed to vimeo or YouTube’s CDN, therefore, some people may experience streaming issues. Anyway, enjoy (hopefully),

Craig -

Great video. The rear camera is quite crisp! Is there a way to flip the image so it is in “rear view mirror” mode?

That way when I pass you, I won’t switch sides of the screen when I go from the rear view camera to the front view one. :stuck_out_tongue:

Steve D.

PS - That video makes it even more clear how bad I was effing up T14 all damn weekend. :frowning: I might have had 2 laps all weekend where I felt like I didn’t overslow but still got a good run out of that corner.

That’s good news! I have some front end parts - and I sent a bunch of them down to Robert to fix the Panther, let me know what you need and I’ll send them down.

#58

Damion, post up your parts needs on the forum and see what folks can contribute.

Really glad to hear it’s fixable!

#59

Damion, that’s terrific!

#60

Damion I have a delphin parts car w/ all the front end parts.
