Bruce, the more I read that rule, the more unclear it becomes. Frankly, I’m not sure I understand the difference between regional and divisional directors? If the rule means what I think it does, the divisional director would be responsible for spec e30 imposed rules. Is this how you see it?
Anyone got a response from exhaust guy?
the Regional Director they refer to is the one for the NASA region, not the spec e30 (or other) series. I don’t think NASA even has divisional directors right now - John Lindsey is the Chief Divisional Director according to nasaproracing.com. That whole section refers to enforcing the CCR rules, not series’ rules. Regional Directors are independent businessmen so I suspect that language is there to reign them in if they start displeasing the home office.
cheers,
bruce

And you just hit the nail on the head. What is in the rules and what is allowed from time to time are probably two different things. No doubt the CCR is written to give nationals total authority however I doubt they will get to involved with regions unless there is a serious problem. This will all probably be a moot point by the time June rolls around anyway. After reading the new rules again, there is clearly more to worry about than the exhaust setup. I’ll see you guys at CMP!
Amen to Rob’s last point. Plenty other things to do and worry about. I don’t see a pending Constitutional Crisis here.
Let’s all get ready for the season, let those in need get their new exhaust systems, and look forward to a bigger and better 2008 for SE30.
He was at Sebring International Raceway with Jon Allen and myself this week, should be back in town this weekend! We did the 6hr enduro
Jon Allen’s team (carlton G. and Dave white) won their class in both the 6 hour enduro and 1:30 enduro. Jon’s car was flawless all weekend. Cant say the same for my new car, we had engine issues from the start and swapped motors Friday night at the track. We ruined a seal in the process and the new motor was up and running but spewing oil. Special thanks to Jon Allen and Paul Poore for the help with the motor also Skip Barber who lent the engine hoist and made it possible to do the job.

What does this mean?? Did I miss the memo that the rules don’t apply to the Southeast Region?

Regions are basically independent contractors. It’s up to each regional director to set the rules for their group. They can add and subtract rules from a class if they feel it will improve safety or encourage participation. Let’s not forget that each region is trying to make money. Since nearly 100% of SE drivers run the old style exhaust, it doesn’t make much sense to force them all to switch exhausts if they don’t want to. Given the old exhaust is almost guaranteed to not be a performance advantage, no harm no foul. I know I’m not going to protest any of my fellow racers for having an old exhaust past July because that’s just plain stupid.[/quote]
I’ve only gotton this far in this thread but I have to respond.
Wrong, wrong, wrong…
Every driver is expected to build and race his car to the Spec E30 Rules. And why wouldn’t they, when it’s so easy?
The Regions are definitely not allowed to “set the rules for their group.” And they certainly cannot “add and subtract rules from a class.” And this goes for all NASA classes.
There was a hint of this during discussions with the NASA National Competition Manager and he was very disturbed about the thought of regions selectively enforcing rules.
Plus, Spec E30 Officials will be visiting different regions during the season and can, and will, apply the Rules during the weekend.

Good to see some positive comments later in the thread. And I’m certainly looking forward to another great season of racing in Spec E30.
Regarding the exhausts…
Paul and I had a good, long telephone conversation tonight. Some about the Sebring event - I hope I’m not stealing anyone’s thunder but they started the 6-hour something like 43rd overall and finished 8th overall, and first in class. And they had some Prepared Class and even Modified Class cars in their class.
Anyway, Paul is back in his shop and will build 18 collectors tomorrow - Monday. He’ll then ship about five systems Tuesday and will continue to ship systems every day.
By Feb 1st, he’ll have 50 systems built and is willing to bring some to VIR for the Feb. 22-24 event and will help install them. If we have enough funds left in the Spec E30 Treasury, we might have a rented garage for the 30-minute installations. If not, NASA might let us use half of the Tech Shed, that is, if Chris Cobetto lets us roll his car out for a few minutes.
I know that some are frustrated with the lack of response from Paul but he told me they were working on a car, seven days a week, for the Sebring races.
Now that Sebring has passed, he is very determined to get the exhausts to buyers asap.
Regarding the design, he did - and will continue to - weld the mid section strapping around the pipe for durability. After over 12 racing hours at Sebring on Jon Allen’s Spec E30 car, and not a single exhaust issue, Paul is confidant that the design is working well.

Admittedly my last comment was funnier in my head than in type. Sarcasm doesn’t work on the internet. I was trying to poke fun at the fact that we have multiple threads on rules and issues arising from them. I apologize if it came out harsher than intended.
Well you know that tax break, Mr. President is GOING to give us, to pump back in to the economy I plan to spend some right now and am starting with the Exhaust guy. Hopefully I will hear from him this week.
There is another thread that gives all the details along with an email address where to order the exhaust system from a single source supplier for $175.
Not sure who’s in charge here, but shouldn’t the vendor info be listed somewhere easy to find? Like, in the vendor links section?
:silly:
It would be nice if the vendor would respond on this board and personally give updates to the group so we don’t keep wondering what is going on. I am in no hurry for a spec exhaust so I really don’t care but a lot of people are desperate so maybe someone can get this mysterious exhaust vendor to log on and keep us updated.
