24 Hours Of Lemons at CMP - who's racing?

#1

I just looked over the website for this event and it sounds like it will be really fun. Who out there is planning to participate?

#2

We’re all signed up with a bio and everything.

I know Pantas has a team as well.

#3

We’ve also got a team going together. I don’t know if we’re registered or not though. Need to get on that.

#4

Others have said they are doing it as well:

BeerTech, as JP has said… is in
Malt Liquor Tech (Al and Travis) with special guest Steven Canturbery
Salazar Racing
Jim Robinson is trying to talk his girl friends into it
Pantis and crew

At least 3 to 4 are rumored to be building e30’s for the race :woohoo:

#5

I’d like to here more about this. When is it? I’m very interested and could possibly have a team together.

#6

Here the website with all of the details. Check out the FAQ section, its really pretty funny.

We are building an early 90’s buick park avenue :silly:

I have an '87 325e 4dr for $500 if anyone wants it B)

#12

Am I correct? You don’t need a comp license to participate in this event. If I read it right you can buy a provisional license at the track for the weekend. If that is the case it might be fun to get a team together.

Hey Jim how about $350 is it a 5speed?

I thought it was spoken for…

We have a team and car together as well. We’re racing (or hoping to) an '86 325eta. woot :stuck_out_tongue:

btw, for those of you w/ E30s, get in on the K.O. Performance Kirk weld in roll cage group buy!

One more person and we’re down to $550 a pop. less if more join.

It’s been months since I posted here, and forgive me for digging up an older thread. We’re another e30 that’s running at the CMP LeMons event. We’re about 95% done. We’ve done most of our decoration now, and I even got money from the last sponsor yesterday. Nerves are frayed, people are tired, but we’re almost there. I gotta say…the car looks pretty mean.

This weekend is the shakedown for the car at an autocross down in Sanford, NC. Let’s hope it doesn’t blow up…
Check out our little website if you have a chance. One word of warning about the photo gallery - Firefox goofs it up and pushes the picture way off to the right of hte screen. The gallery looks fine in IE.

I’ll be there in a (sorry) Miata. The Malt Liquor Tech guys already warned me to reinforce those cute little plastic bumpers.

See y’all there!

This is the kind of racing I am all about. Its sad it not the norm. Real cheep raceing. If you guys are looking for a paid hot shoe. I can rent to you my left foot of furry.

I wish I had known about thes sooner. Me and my boys could have whipped so but at CMP

Oh man…this cheap racing…isn’t exactly cheap.

Yep, you’re closely regulated on go fast parts, but the entry fees and the safety equipment really add up quickly. I’ve been keeping a spreadsheet of all the costs to make sure that one team member doesn’t end up shouldering too much of a load, and I will tell you, it’s not cheap.

Is it cheaper than building a cheaper “real” racecar like a Spec E30 or a 944 cup car? You betcha.

It was great to see so many E30s out there cutting up the field.

Kudos to:

Malt Liquor Tech - 5th overall with 507 laps
Beertech - 12th overall with 474 laps
Salazar - 45th overall with 324 laps (despite being crushed by the excavator at lunch - quite a show until they flipped it sideways and about $80 worth of fuel glugged itself into a nice puddle. Everybody kinda backed away slowly while the machine lowered the car gently to the ground. No kaboom.)

My trusty steed, the OPM Miata (“Inmates Running the Asylum” ) finished 48th of 74 despite starting with a 200 lap “BS Factor” penalty. They thought we lied about how much we spent on the car… We finished one more lap than the overall winner, but them’s the breaks.

Pantas’ Oldsmobuick blowed up at some point during the weekend. They kept topping off the tranny and ran out of oil for the engine, from what I understand!

Pantas, while stuck on the front straight: “No. It’ll start. But you’re going to have to pick up the front wheels.”

Tow truck driver: “Why?”

Pantas: “'Cuz it’s stuck in PARK!”

That, my friends, can not happen to a real race car. :S
