24 Hours Of Lemons at CMP - who's racing?

#21

SteveD,

Who was “driving” your #8 wrecking ball when you plowed into our car at the chicane, killing our overall race lead of 6 laps?

That was the hardest Ive ever been hit while in a car.

Here we are, just minutes before…:frowning:

Overall we had a blast, what am awesome experience! Cant wait to do it again. Im working on a write up now and we should have some good video and pictures as well.

Brian -

There was absolutely no excuse for that. Our driver at the time, Todd Lamb, was absolutely mortified. That was his out lap and he completely misjudged his braking.

I hope you and the other E30 guys found him to be more well-behaved during the rest of his stint. Same goes for the rest of our drivers. I was driving Sunday morning and tried to race all you guys very cleanly.

I think the same goes for the other 2 drivers. Everyone tried to be quick but clean.

I am very sorry.

Steve D.

PS - I have video of that f up. I hope to combine it with some GOOD driving in a highlight video soon.

No big deal really, our car still ran and that was all we cared about. It was cool having the lead for a while but our main goal was to get all of our drivers some good seat time and hope to finish the race which we did.

No harm no foul, after all if you cant afford to have it crushed (like Salazar) don’t race it in the Lemons right?

Thanks for being so understanding. When we saw Todd hit the race leader we all felt like real a$$hats.

After the first few laps with the tranny going into no-mans-land on every corner I figured we didn’t have a chance, I was definitely a rolling chicane. That’s when I came in hard to the “tires of doom” on the front straight and nearly punted in the car ahead of me, and the $@#!%@ car stalled!!!

When I tried to restart it had to be in park, so I slammed it in park, got it restarted and realized that we never wire-tied the linkage like we wanted to do before starting the race… sooooo… I was stuck in park!

I sat there for quite a while all the time watching everyone use me as a low hanging parking lot island and getting ready for the one that forgets that I am there!!! :woohoo:

The tow truck driver was going to yank me off the track when I told him what the problem was and he then backed up to me and lifted the wheels off the ground to get back into the paddock, I told my team members what happened and they fixed it so I could go back out. The next few laps I figured out that if I left it in first gear I could actually accelerate in the corners as well as on the straights.

All of our team members took turns driving and we realized that after each driver the transmission was a quart low on fluid - this also allowed everyone to use all of the gears instead of just first! B)

Needless to say just when we got the pit stops down and smooth our last driver came in it the engine making all types of funny noises (knocking, rattling, no idle, popping, wheezing, sputtering, etc.) - we ended up pulling all of the plugs to blow the water out of the cylinders, seems it was hydro-locking  so we put the plugs back in, made the decision to send the ole’ girl out with a bang, put another driver in and told him to “drive her til she blows…”. We pushed her as far as we could, waited until the course was green and sent him out - he had to pause for the stop sign at the end of pit road and that was all she wrote - the engine refused to turn over after than, completely seized…

It was 3:30p and our racing was over, we did what any normal racer would do, packed her up into the trailer and started drinking!!! :woohoo: She’ll be back next year, we’ll have a new drivetrain in her and a spare drivetrain in case we want to swap, but overall it was definitely some of the most fun racing I have had in a while, even watching the penalty box was exciting… B)

They are talking about holding it twice at CMP next year, if so that would be twice the fun! We are talking about building a second more “serious” car - and we already have a theme! (sorry, you’ll have to wait to find out).

The people’s curse was definitely fun to watch, I never knew an E30 could crumple that easily!

Do not bring a race car to the LeMons race, it doesn’t matter if it is wrecked, rusted, worn out, etc. it will still get BFS points, also the organizers realize that any worn out BMW is better than most cars already, so unless your car is really a POS they will likely give BFS laps…also it does not pay to piss people off on Saturday.

We were doing this race for fun, our plan was to drop dead possums on the track using our possum escape hatch, when we found ourselves running in the top 10 early on, we decided to try and race. We were 2nd OA at the end of the day Saturday and moved into first on Sunday morning…a fifth is better than we expected, hell a finish is better than what wwe hoped for, we did not even check the air filter and ran it slam out of oil Saturday…

Cant wait for next year…

So did you drop any possums?

#28

Appearently the locals in Kershaw Co, SC pick up any good roadkill…to eat. We found ZERO on our trip Friday evening, ZERO…we did not limit our search to possum’s, anything dead, not pizza’d, bloated, etc. We found nothing. Travis wanted to drop a whole transmission or a human head but we talked him out of it.

ps, sorry to the Salazar team women for the weiner shot
