Is nobody renting a quality E30 for this race?

#3

I wish I could justify the cost just to enter and drive out there. I’m looking at about $2,400 just to get there and back including entry fee.

Now I know how the California guys feel going to mid-ohio?

#4

But aren’t all of the west-coast guys billionaires?

#5

Looks like the unofficial east coast sort of championship will be at Watkins Sept 27-29. I believe a lot of people are going from SE/MA/NE/GL?

#6

They are, but by the time they make their mortgage payments there’s barely enough left for tires and a Bud Light.

#7

So no Spec E30 at Nationals this year…wow.

#8

wow, even the SM field is tiny. Looks like a regular regional race entry list.

I am surprised given the very large fields that the west coast guys put up. I’m glad I didn’t register.

#9

Why would we go if there isn’t a big field? Whole point is to be a National Champion. No point in spending that money to race the people you race regionally and not get the big payouts.

Takes two to tango and one of the missing pieces was the east coast.

#10

I suggest a 3 race east coast ch@mp!onsh!p at Watkins (Sept), VIR (Oct), and Road Atlanta (Dec).

#11

Sounds affordable.

Long term, having Nationals at Miller will be successful because the east coast will soon be closer.

I agree, sad zero SE30 cars. What I considered to be the second largest field of cars in the country, and 12 guys out west couldn’t get it together enough to go. Super sad.

#14

thank the guys who spent all that $$$$ to build super motors so they can have a HUGE advantage at a HP track!

#15

I was planning to go to the Glen but have a corporate meeting in Clearwater FL.

I’ll be at VIR for sure and probably at Road Atlanta. Let’s get some good fields.

So are there no Spec e30 cars at miller? Was the class dropped or did everyone pull out due to the new engine rule?

#17

Hi Mike,
I know why I pulled out but can’t speak for anyone else. Really very sad IMO. While I support the rule change in 2014, to implement 30 days prior to this years Nationals was maybe a mistake??
Since this rule change has been so well received, maybe Nasa should address the Torque component prior to 2014 season…Oh wait, maybe the guys with 155HP & 168T will be given notice 30 days prior to 2014 nationals that there will be a new Torque limit of 155.
Would be very sad to have zero turnout 2 years in a row.

Following the West Coast’s total abandonment of Nationals, I think all future West Coast races should have a nickname. I’m not trying to be offensive, but I think “VagFest” or “PussARama” would work.

I really can’t believe some of you guys literally took your football and went home. Sad. While I also question the timing of NASA rolling out the HP rule, they did what they did, and some of you guys had a chance to be truly legendary. To show the world that you didn’t actually need 170+ HP to win a National Championship, that you could show up, kick ass, take names, and roll out, with some sensible level of power that was within the spirit of the rules. Represent. But instead, some of you stayed home, crying about the rule, inherently admitting that without 170hp you’d be toast. Super sad.

When I think of true champions, I think of guys like Tony Buffomante. He and his dad were artists, both by way of car setup and driving skill. They worked at it. Back in the FFR days, everybody cried about power, too. He went out and cleaned house with 218 HP when everybody else had 235 HP. They weren’t even close races, he straight up cleaned house. There are countless others that win races with solid talent, even in the absence of huge engines. That’s the stuff of a real champion.

At any rate, I hope that SE30 continues to flourish under the new rules.

True Champions race a Championship worthy race. Best of 8 cars? Everyone runs in the top 10 at least…B)

Our football is actually in California, it was the gyms football we took and still would have beat you guys with.

So, when is the show-down at the Glen?

Will it carry-over to the SE/MA race at VIR?
