2011 Rules

#1

Just wondering when the 2011 rules will be posted. Would have to think that it would be late December like last year. I guess i just answered my question:huh:

But thanks again for everyone who keeps this series so competitive. I have had a blast the last few years racing, and hopefully many more to come. Just please don’t change the tire again:lol:

Think they will reduce the weight of our cars. No cost + performance, longer life of expendables, sounds like a great idea to me.

#3

From the other threads I have read the chances are slim since they haven’t reduced it any of the other years.

#4

Definitely would enjoy a 50lb. weight reduction.

50-100 would be quite welcome.

Should mention that we run our cars in Australia to a fairly similar spec with minimum racing weight (car+driver+fuel at all times) of 1130kg which is 2491 lbs. This is reasonably easy to achieve on a pre-facelift car, harder with the facelift bodies as they are between 70-100lbs heavier in the chassis.

I would say that 2600lbs is the furthest you would want to drop to, so that all the ‘full-size’ drivers (200-250lb) can still get down to the weight requirement.

#7

i’m “full size”, and have no worries getting to 2600-2650 lbs

#8

If this change happens I’ll need someone to show me where I can drop some weight from the front half of my car. I’m currently at 2760 with a full tank of fuel. I do still have the full trunk tar, but if I’ve gotta drop weight I’d rather not take it out of the rear.

I vote to leave it alone.

Power Steering stuff and oil cooler are in the front half. Plenty of discussion on the merits of ditching that stuff.

#10

Don’t overfill 1 quart. That’s two pounds right there.

The current weight made sense when we needed to equalize the 318 chassis. Now it makes sense only for those who retain windows, power steering, trunk tar… It is a moot point because the decision has likely been made for this year, but I think we should have a weight that is reasonably achievable by 95% of the class. A 50 lb drop is well within that range, IMHO.

PS - I am going to fab up some titanium strut tower braces. Who’s in?

Well currently you’d be underweight at the end of the race if you are at 2760 with a full tank. If they drop min weight to 2700 then you are in the ballpark of where you need to be right now.

Windows/sunroof/(in my case eat less :silly: )

Matt,

It looks like you only need to lose 10 lbs. How’s your cross weight? You should take a look at those numbers before deciding what to remove.

Yeah, I think I’d be fine at 2700, but 2600 and 2650 have been suggested. I’d probably have a hard time making those numbers.

It’s not a question of what to remove. There’s nothing left. I’ve already removed just about everything that can come out.

What wheels are you running? 13 lb D-Force wheels could cut some weight if you’re running something heavier. You don’t need to run with a full tank.

I don’t really care about weight, It will be what it is, and I’m pretty damn sure it will be 2750!!

I would like to see the e32 ATE master cylinder allowed, but I didn’t submit an official request so maybe 2012

#18

+1 for bigger BMC!

Almost. They will be painted orange like the Sparco units (so as not to arouse paddock suspicion). I don’t want to give away how much lighter they will be, so I will install them for you. The friends-and-family price will be $732 installed.

That titanium tubing is expensive but that’s a critical area for weight reduction.

Roughly 40% lighter, titanium should save ~4 pounds in this very critical area. That’s only $183 per pound!!! What an exceptional value. Steve, please send me one ASAP. Paypal is on the way…
