Where Are They

#1

Ok, first post, but I’ve been lurking…That’s kind of scary.

I really want to pull the trigger on SpecE30…I’m not opposed to building a car but I’m having trouble finding a suitible candidite.

I want/need a rust free solid chassis to start with. I’ve been looking through Craigs and the usual places but am having no luck.

Any suggestions…

Also, where do you see this class going - growth, stagnant, getting smaller?

I’m located in Rochester, NY.

Went to the Oct NASA @ the Glen and want to thank all of the Spece30 drivers that I met - very, very, friendly!

My buddy still has his car for sale, its in CT. There is also another car in NY in the classifieds

These cars are definitely becoming harder to find. I wouldn’t pass up any decent cars especially living in the north east finding a rust free car is going to be tough. If I was looking right now I wouldn’t rule out a more expensive donor in the $3K range simply because its becoming harder to find decent donors. The northeast region is growing as far as I can tell and is just getting to a point where they have some decent numbers. The great lakes region has a number of drivers joining the fray next year. Also don’t forget nationals will be back at Mid ohio in 2011 which isn’t too far from you.

Rochester huh? Come on over and check mine out! Hopefully next season I’m running wheel to wheel. Talk to the folks at Eksten Autoworks, they might have a lead on a car or two.

Keep an eye on the classified on this site also. My friend bought a car from the mid west and started running it in the NE and MA regions this season. I looked for about 6 or 8 months before I found mine. You may need to travel to look at them though. There are more in the South East and Mid Atlantic regions. They pop up for sale on occasion. Just need to move fast to get them.

Check with Robert Patton in SE - he is trying to sell a fresh built car and he know how to put one together.

Thanks, Alex.
All you Spec E30 racers count up your costs…How much did you spend?

Brand new car. Not cheap…but it is a new car. $14000 with new engine, eat off the undercarriage nice.

Yes , you can build one, one piece at a time so that the cost is spread over a long period, and it’ll cost you $11000.

I’ve got a donor car! 87 325is running car with a bad auto tranny. I will need to put the suspension back on, but that is not a problem. $850

Price will soon go up as I might pull a Patton and go ahead and build the car I’m out of projectsB)

I’ve got my old car up for sale on craigslist. I’m asking $5k, pretty sure I’ve got receipts for about $6k + $2k I paid for the donor.

Did all the work but the safety equipment, didn’t want to deal with the cage and just grabbed a car that was already all the way built out.

Thanks to all that responded…

I’ll be on the lookout

Welcome to the chase for a good car.
I am also from Rochester.
I just went to Ebay and bought a Georgia car.
It was already a track toy, but not race ready. Since then I have had a learning experience and still don’t have it where I want it. I am trying to do some of this stuff myself, but I have gone to Eksten’s when I am over my head.
If I had it to do all over again, I would bite the bullet and get a sorted car that is ready to race. One with podiums in its history would be best. Your budget might need to wait a year. You can always HPDE with your DD or get a second mortgage.
Good luck
Paul

Where in Rochester?

I’m very familiar with Ekstens - I’ve known Larry & Rick for years…

I’d love to see your car and talk about the trials and tribulations that you’ve gone through so far.

Let me know.

Thanks,

Paul

Sounds like we have several guys in Rochester. SpecE30 in the NE might start getting larger fields in the next couple of years. Sure would be nice to have so much experience with this class in the area!

My racing partner not to be confused with Life Partner, and former owner of Fountain Motorsports - Grand Am Cup, and I are going to look at a donor car today.

So, if all goes well, there will be two more in the NE next season!

Good luck.

Paul
You have got a better talent pool than I.
I took my RX7 to Fountain 5 years ago and they were prepping some brand new Mazdas for Tripoint Racing. That was impressive. I am in Fairport, my cell is 750-9341. I have my car stored in Macedon but I am on my way to get it and get ready for the 11/7 HPDE at Summit. I would be glad to meet and talk.
Thanks

I have a 89 E30 that is almost a Spec E30 that i would like to sell. I have folder full of receits that total almost 13k for the car. It’s not cheap to build a good car… Give me a call at 757-718-9132 for more details about the car. Thanks Scott
