What's up with CMP New Course?

I noticed on the NASA-SE site their first event in February is shown as CMP - New Course. What’s the scoop on this, new layout or a repave? Please say they are repaving over the seashell surface!

I was at a CMP brief in Aug where they discussed their plans. They discussed a number of track upgrades, to include some covered paddocks, a club house and some significant changes to the course. At that point they had not decided upon which course concept to go with, but all the concepts would result in a "long course" that was longer then the current course.

I don’t recall if repaving the current course was discussed, but it would make sense for them to address those surface areas that have been generating complaints.

I’m just some nitwit that is completely out of the loop. But at the briefing it seemed like it was going to be a while before the new course was in place. 6 months to go from architect concepts to hosting events on a new course seems a little optimistic.

They are also going to set up some kind of club that you can join and get track days.

Their plans looked expensive. Which is good and bad.

I called CMP and what the admin told me (and she said she didn’t know a lot about racing) was that they were going to reconfigure between turns 12 and 13 to make it "softer" more like the carousel and less 90 degree. She also said they were looking to repave the turns to make them less abrasive!!! Oh if that’s only true!!! The work is supposed to start December 3rd. Please weather, hold out!!!

According to Mr. Pantas, they are modifying the course from T11 to T14 to add a long sweeper turn which should really change the autocross section.

They are also planing a repave of the whole track in the next year or so. Also, the old configuration will remain so clubs have an option of layouts.

The 5 year plan includes using another 50 acres to build an additional section after turn 8 that will add nearly another mile to the track.

BTW, the new motor sports club is amazing. Can anyone say 52 track days next year for just over $100 a pop? You should look into being a member.

I’ve also heard this from another source. The braking zone coming off the kink is going to be a whole new ball game if this is true.
