What welder do you have? What do suggest?

Hello to the great and WISE E30 community,

I have some decent experience MIG and TIG welding with large expensive commercial machines. I am now looking to a MIG for my house and e30 projects, but I have a few concerns.

I have read that I should buy the biggest and best one I can afford and i would love to have a new 220v MIG/TIG with all the trimmings. The big thing is that my House only has ONE 220v outlet and the stove is plugged in to that. 110v version is much cheaper and I can plug it in everywhere.

I know with a 110v MIG i will be limited by my duty cycle and will have to let the machine rest every so often, I don’t see me needing to be that intensive. Most welding I am going to be doing requires me to jump around a lot not to build heat, not run 2’ long seam welds, but I could be wrong.

I have been wrong about these type of thing so many times before. I really would like to hear what your using, what your suggestions are.

THANKS ALOT! Dan

if you have access to circuit breaker box you can wire in another 220 V plug (or get electrician to do it )
As for welders, I have Lincoln SP-135 Plus ; it’s little 110V MIG machine.

Whether to buy a 110 or 220 MIG is really a function of what you are gong to be welding. A 110 unit is going to be limited to 1/8" steel with shielding gas and about 3/16" with flux core. In automotive work you probably won’t run into the duty cycle limitation and will seldom need more capacity than a 110 unit provides.

Buy the best you can afford. A Miller 140 is an excellent unit and works as well as the big boys.
