Wanted spec E30 ready to race - commited buyer

#1

I’ve been tracking my e36 for a while and it’s time to start racing.

Looking for a spec e30. I want it to go fast and look good too doing it.
If it looks rough and runs good, the price should reflect it, and i’ll have it painted myself after purchase.

Please email me at noam{at}dealershipids{dot}com with some pictures and info.
Even if you’ve been toying with the idea of selling your car, shoot me some photos and an asking price. I’m willing to pay good money for a good car. I just really don’t want to build one from scratch.

Thank you all!

Where are you located?

#3

Doesnt get much better then this if its still available.

Robert Patton is selling a new build and the price has gotten very low. He’s not on the boards too often and is not an email type. Look up TurboDieselRegister.com, call them and ask for Robert.

#5

thanks everyone for the replies.

I’m in Portland OR. Looking nationwide and don’t mind shipping the car here. Only about 1k for shipping enclosed.

Absolutlye I have looked at #410 silver e30 and spoke with the owner who was very nice and promised to email me photos. Anyone know this car? Any comments?

Ranger - thanks. I’ll be calling Robert tomorrow morning to see what he has.

Very eager to start racing. Beating my own laptime is fun, but i really want to get a bit more - “intimate” with other cars. Get so close to a rear bumper I can lean forward and take a bite off it - yum! anyone feel the same? haha

i have no idea what you’re talking about

Just curious…who are you going to race against in Oregon? NASA doesn’t have a presence there.

You might want to shop for a Pro3 race car instead…http://www.pro3-racing.com/

i have no idea what you’re talking about
Haha! Great still shot Tower.

Noam - When I send you photos, you’ll notice a little white paint on the rear bumper from Jason trying a little bump and run.

Many folks on here are familiar with the car and me. I’m sure they will chime in with the good, bad and indifferent. LOL.

It may not help me, but I agree with Scott’s advice 100%. I think the guys at TC sold theirs pretty quickly. Here’s a link http://www.tcmotorsports.net/index.php/2011/12/fully-sorted-and-ready-to-race-bmw-pro3-for-sale/. Looked like a good car!

#10

so you guys DO know what i’m talking about. “must catch the next guy! must catch must catch!”

Yes sneville44. The spec e30 is so close to pro3 that is indeed what i’m looking for. I just didn’t mention pro3 because not everyone knows what it is.

But from what I gather - a spec e30 give or take a couple of Gs, should be close enough to compete in pro3.

Called Mr. Patton very nice man. He will send me photos tomorrow and i’ll go from there.

Sorry Steve…I didn’t mean to pee on your campfire  but it was an obvious question to ask Mr. Noam.

BTW…Good luck with your sale! Your car is one of the finest SE30s out there. Sorry to see you leave the series.

Cheers,
Scott

Steve - good to see you here!!! Looking forward to those photos. Paint from other car’s rear bumper on your front bumper is worth extra $$$. means your car is fast.

Things have changed slightly. Me and Joseph are both getting rid of our e36 and buying 2x spec e30. Must buy soon. If it’s a good deal and nice car, we are ready. We both have to buy soon or we won’t be able to concetrate on work!!!

Why bring a knife to a gunfight? If you want a fully prepped car and you’re planning on racing Pro3 then I’d start looking here:

Scott
No worries, Scott.

Noam - I’m no expert on Pro3 but I believe there are pretty open suspension rules, which would mean a pretty hefty outlay for coilovers and setup. Also, I think they allow more aggressive engine builds. We have to use the stock chip. I don’t know what the race weight is but my car is built to 2700 lbs with 195 lb driver. It would be a challenge to drop much more weight.

Just thought you’d appreciate full disclosure.

#15

Oh yeah. Diff and exhaust too. That car Scott linked looks like the ticket!! I am well shy of 175 tq!!!

#16

Noam, you can’t go wrong with either Steve’s #410 or my #8.
Both are immaculate, eat off the underside, no grease or oil leaks, proven cars.

Steve’s is all out race, more race proven and is a bit more expensive. It is a 2-door and looks racier.

Mine leaves some room to reduce weight and tinker as you get closer to the competition in race skills. It is less expensive and has the more forgiving big bumpres. It is a 4-door and the extra doors are more functional for hauling stuff.

Catch a cheap air fare and we’ll pick you up at the Atlanta airport for a look-see at both cars. Steve is close-by and we can put both cars up in the air on a lift at my shop.If you are really going to ship back to Washington state, ship two of them and save a dollar or two.

Just for giggles, I looked at the Conference rules for Pro3. It looks like their rules are very close to an all-out SCCA ITS build.

Here are the big differences I saw:
• 9.5 lb wheels vs 13
• 2650 lbs vs 2700 (14 of that being wheels  )
• 0.040 overbore allowed vs 0.020 in SE30
• Computer chip
• +0.5 compression
• Stock air box can be removed/replaced
• Header and exhaust are free
• Diffs of virtually any ratio & LSD lockup may be used
• Double adjustable shocks
• Coil-over suspension

For any buyers of a Spec E30, Robert’s car is a great choice though. It is a solid, proven car. We are taking mine to Roebling for Chris to drive while I test the Miata. I am superstitious about putting a car on track that is for sale so for the next 7 days it is off the market. After that, it probably depends on how much fun she has embarrassing the guys in the street cars.

{edit}
What about this I found on another forum? 3k extra is ok by me…

Bottom line above Spec E30 to build a competitive PRO3 you might be looking at
$1000+ for suspension over new SPEC E30 setup
$1000+ for engine tuning
$1000+ for exhaust
You can do each of the above as you grow your driving ability and your budget allows.
{edit}
Yeah I looked at that Blue pro3 car in person this last saturday and I thought he was asking too much compared to all the spec e30 cars out there for sale.
But maybe I was wrong. Obviously a pro3 car is more expensive to build therefore would be more expensive out on the open market…

That’s really too bad. That really narrows down my search quite a bit doesn’t it?
I’m sorry if I wasted anybodys time with this thread.

Kind regards,
Noam
