Vir video (Passing under the yellow)

You can always report it post-race at the event. Maybe you did, I wasn’t there and since there is no text to go with the video, I didn’t know if it’s new info or you were posting for someone else.

I wasn’t a scholar of the CCR’s as I am of the e30 rules. I thought that it would have been taken care of automatically, but it wasn’t which I realized when I saw the results the next day.

egads! Please read these and become a scholar of them before the next race. The e30 rules only deal with what you can legally do to the car. NASA tells us what is acceptable behaviour on the track and more importantly…what is not acceptable.

B.)be able to do something…

If you get passed under yellow and have the proof, like this video, let one of the officials know. No harm in making it known again if the corner called it in already.

What flagging rules are we under exactly??

That seems to be the incorrect flag as well. Neither stopped car was on the racing surface at that time, that should have been standing yellow with a white flag for the vehicles.

Watching this unfold from the lunch stand I saw the following. And was somewhat worried as an experienced flagger. If you are under different rules I’ll shut up.

Car went off drivers left and hit wall and stopped. This was a standing yellow situation and they were waving.

Then Sports racer slowed in the same spot for assistance and they should have went waiving to alert oncoming drivers of a car on track as a hazard. He then pulled off track, and they should have went back to standing yellow.

The sports racer initially stopped on track and the on coming drivers probably assumed the only car stopped was off course from the lap before (thanks to the improper flag). When he pulled off the racing surface they should have went back to standing yellow.

Rob,
you are technically correct. I was taught, and NASA MA teaches, waving for "on the track" , standing for off the track. VIR does provide the corner workers. I cannot comment on what they are taught, but Yellow is Yellow, whether standing or waving.

The ones where you hope the corner-worker is competent. VIR, like Watkins Glen, provides their own full-time flaggers.

I agee with Sean, Yellow is yellow. When you see one, proceed with caution. It would be nice for the difference between waving and standing to be accurate, but I wouldn’t put my safety and car into that level of specificity. If the corner is yellow, I assume that I need to be prepared for something on the track, if it’s on the shoulder, I am pleasantly surprised.
