VIR this weekend

Group:

Just a short note to mention that Robert Patton of the NASA Southeast Region and I shared his car for the BMW CCA enduro today.

The car ran fine until I took over just past the 30-minute mark of the 1-hour race. A small coolant hose between the firewall and engine tore open. I saw it happen and came into the pit lane. All that should be needed for the fix is a new hose.

I also got a chance to meet Mike Mills in-person. We’ve emailed many, many times and spoken on the phone but meeting someone face-to-face makes the relationship better. He is very knowledgable, level headed, and continues to be a huge help to Spec E30.

Lastly, David Cullen has been named the official Spec E30 Regional Director for NASA Southeast. David is a good BMW CCA KP driver and has commited to building a dedicated Sepc E30 car for next season. Robert Patton reports that he will turn his present car over to his daughter and will start on his Spec E30 car as well.

Good news all around!

ps. Today, I spoke with three Mid Atlantic drivers who are planning to have their Spec E30 cars ready for next year’s racing.

Is David okay? Any additional info on what happened?

PS - My car and I should be ready by April 2006 for a mid-Atlantic debut.

I had a great time myself playing with BMW’s all weekend. By mistake on saturday I had left to go to NC to pick up my roller. I thought it was still my job on the way back to pick up enough beer for the Saturday paddock beer garden. James didn’t think i’d make it back on time so he sent our crew guy terry out for the run, but didn’t call me. We ended up with 25 cases of beer. :woohoo: Thus Good times were had by all.

I’ve never seen a golf cart on two wheels so many times for so long without tipping over.

I enjoyed talking with Rob at the BimmerWorld Compound.

And David H is ok. He lost his abs going into turn one at VIR Saturday and slid into the right rear of a car turning-in.

I spoke with him today (he’s in Seattle) and he’s looking at a 325is with a blown head gasket. I told him that I’m available for another weekend build/swap and to let me know when he plans to do it.

He said that he’ll also miss the Oct. race but that he’ll be back with us next year.

Was it Dan Martin’s black I-Stock E36 coupe that he hit? I haven’t spoken to Dan yet, but I do know that he was hit on the passenger side rear quarter, going into turn 1 on the first lap. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow when I take the E30 up to his shop for a tech inspection.

Glad to hear that David’s okay.

[update]: Went by Dan’s shop this morning (btw, need a new Giubo, ugh)… The E36 was up on the rack, although, other than some panel damage and a leak in the diff. (Dan replaced the R/R control arms and shock at the track, so that he could drive in the Sunday enduro & finish his rookie license.) Amazingly, the wheel didn’t crack.
