VIR Feb. race schedule

#1

Sean,

Any word on when the schedule for the Feb. race at VIR will be posted on the NASA MA site?

Just noticed that the schedule for the Feb. event at VIR has posted: http://nasaracing.net/VIR_Feb_07/event.htm

Looks like we will be grouped with GTS instead of 944.

The groups are atypical for this event only since we are running 2 race groups for the sprints instead of 3 like usual. The good news is that racers doing onl;y the sprints will get finished pretty early on Sunday and if they need to leave, can get an early start home.

Did I read this correct, that on Sunday for the sprint race, there is not practice or qualifiing session and only a 30-minute sprint? I thought the discussion had been around a longer race if the practice session was going to be dropped.

Ouch, Now I’m wondering if I should’ve headed to CMP this weekend.

Looks like Saturday might not be accurate yet. The Fighter group isn’t listed for a qualifying session. I am assuming that they will get one.

With this many mixed classes, how does the standing start work?

I think all know that I was initially skeptical as well, but now that I have seen the schedule and counted the minutes, we are only losing 10 minutes total compared to a "usual" weekend and we get the ability to run a double sprint and still participate in the enduro unlike last year.
I think overall NASA has done the best that they could given the required church hour on sunday and the three hour enduro. I would say that I think a note to the public would have helped the situation, but from what I understand each series director was notified of this ahead of time.
Looking forward to the event, hoping the weather is good, and the car holds up to the extended abuse of the long weekend.

And I think that this thread was covered about a month ago under the general heading of "new weekend format". That is totally different from the constraints of VIR.

OK, I thought about responding earlier but didn’t but here goes anyway

Basically, you are saying that you would rather have 10 extra minutes of track time at a glorified autocross course (don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy CMP) rather than come to one of the best sports car venues in the US. Hmmm, do a bunch of switchbacks in 2nd gear or go 5th gear, flat to the floor all the way up the climbing esses. Choice is simple to me.

To each his own, but think that at the end of the day, you’ll still have much more fun at VIR (provided that we don’t need studded snow tires).

Hey don’t get me wrong. I much prefer VIR, especially full course. I just didn’t realize that Sunday Sprint was race only with no practice or qualification session. For those not doing the Enduro, going to be a quick day.

Let’s hope for a mild February!!!

Would anyone here be interested in doing a ride-along or two on either day? I’m in HPDE3 and would love some tips from someone more experienced than myself. This is only the 2nd time I’ve run VIR. My group runs before your practice in the AM and after the race in the PM, either of which should allow time for someone to not be rushed.
I asked NASA for an instructor but they are apparently pretty limited. Spec E30 car less cage and harnesses and driven by someone who is more cautious than scary. B)

ddavidv,
I’ll be instructing Sat/Sun then doing the enduro (no sprints 4 me). Alex and Vic are NASA instructors (as is Carter I think). Im sure one of us could jump in for a session. You’d prob do better if you got a ride w/ me (I don’t have a pass seat, but could likely borrow Alexs car for an ins session which does). Anyway, we’re the Salazar blue/white cars. Just come up and introduce yourself.

I’d be happy to do it too. I’ve not instructed with NASA MA, but have done a few events with SE and many other schools. Look for the #143 car white/blue/red car.

#14

Thanks guys. I will look you up. Stephen, what car # are you?
Ride along would be fine also, though I would like someone to smack my helmet when I brake too deep as that is a big problem I need to overcome.

330 me, 325 Vic, 54 Alex, ?? Han

I think Han is 144. Alex might be 154 for this event. You can’t miss the blue and white though, and you certainly can’t miss Han’s front splitter, which is visible from the Moon.

ok so your finishing position in saturday’s race will determine your starting position in sunday’s sprint? Also what will be used for the enduro qualifying?

#18

Enduro has a qualifying session. I think that the fastest lap in Sat. race will be your "qualifying" time for Sunday. We discussed that at the Annual meeting but don’t know if it is a sure thing.

Well it should be interesting for me since my father is racing in saturday’s race! Dad you better pull of some quick laps in saturdays race! I have faith

Why not just have "5th grade style qualifying?" I call FIRST!!!
