Where do most people mount the transponder? Front / rear? Any pictures of mounting locations?
Thanks in advance!

Mine is mounted in the round hole behind the passenger headlight where the AC dryer used to be. Two L brackets bought from the hardware store and a couple rivets and I was done. I have it powered by the coil and grounded to the big ground on the shock tower!!
same spot but running to a switch in the dash. I probably got power from one of the green spiders.
Since I used that hole for the overflow catch can I mounted mine behind it, using the two holes for something else that pre-existed. I made a simple L shaped bracket to hold it and mounted it so that the bracket shields it from anything the tire might throw up. I think I got the power for mine from the junction block on the firewall.
When mounted on the right side of the car a handy source of power is the + terminal of the coil. It is best to include a 1a in-line fuse between there and then transponder.
I like to mount the transponder on the inner side of the frame rail. That location is fairly protected and has a clear view of the ground.
Thanks for the suggestions/info. I was thinking the inside frame rail would be good, but wanted to see what folks were doing. For power I have a fused line to a switch on the dash.
I mounted mine on the metal front valance under the front bumper so it was low and has a clear path to the ground. It is near the spot where the OEM foglight goes on the passenger side of the 325is splitter. I ran power to the coil and sanded down the paint near it on the strut tower and put a dedicated ground for it with a bolt and nut.
Transponders are expensive, but totally necessary, parts. I destroyed one in the 96 car by having it mounted outside of the frame rails (in the A/C dryer hole). Having the transponder mounted outside of the frame rails puts it in a place where damage is possible.
Mine is mounted on a telescoping pole that is controlled by a dash-mounted rocker switch. I can make up approximately 1 car length that way.
Absolutely a great point. I have mine mounted on the outside of the passenger side frame rail. I’ll be moving mine to the inside as per Jim. Thanks Jim!
