Track Records Section

#1

Not sure if anyone noticed, but we really should update he SpecE30 Track Records section.

With the introduction of the RR’s, I am sure the posted times have been eclipsed.

Who is keeping up the records and/or who should we submit new information to?

#2

I think people have been submitting times. I submitted mine at the end of last season.

#3

I was just looking at that yesterday and noticed most had not been updated since 2011.

I do like that they show the top 10.

#4

They have been updated, but it’s possible that some were missed. The MyLaps fiasco this past year made it harder to keep track for a while, and then I got a bit behind.

If you know of a specific error or omission, Kieran Gobey will be handling this going forward and it might be a good idea to send him a message about it. He is “kgobey” on this board, I believe.

Hi folks…

The management of these records is a matter of updating the contents of a single page - mechanically from a user perspective this is a simple task and takes very little time.

The area I need help with is with aggregating latest information. Julian, like me is a tech-y-type and the master records are aggregated very nicely (he had a good process for sorting the latest records from the old ones which I can easily repeat). The ability to obtain the latest information is the real issue.

MyLaps.com has one of the worst user interfaces on record and data mining is actually not possible. The best source of information seems to be the NASA results FTP…

If you feel that records for your region are out of date, please (pick one from below)

  1. You can point me to the regional FTP sight and best yet to the specific results PDF you’d like me to pull from. (just the URL’s)
  2. Send me the aggregated results you have collected yourselves.

I’d to pull from the FTP as it really is the official source of the results. A URL to the PDF file itself allows me to cut an paste that into Excel and arrange and sort the information in a meaningful way.

Going forward (once the reconciliation process is started) I’d like you to help me to find new results - and they don’t all have to have record setting times… If you send me the data files I can decide for myself if records have been broken.

Long-term maybe we can add asterisks for the “original RA1”, the “R888”, the “reformulated RA1” and the “RR” eras… Asterisks for ETA, 4cyl and convertible cars too in the long run…

But my first goals are to reconcile out of date records with the current information and build a cooperative effort with you all to bring data to me rather than rely on me to know you even had a race in your region.

Ahhhhh, so Master Gobey will be handling this…Most excellent! :woohoo:

As far as the noting the tire used, who the hell cares. We all know the RR will be the record setting times, so why bother? It seems like more work to support the obvious. But if you have that much free time on your hands, that’s your call.

We will need to fish through what we have to see what we can find for the fastest laps we can find. We will get you a top ten and then just go from there.

I can tell you from looking at some old time sheets, ours are WAY our of line. The fastest times have dropped by at least 2 seconds, or so.

Thanks Steve!

If you can bring me up to date, then I can make the changes to the web page. Just as long as I can add my old times by removing 10 seconds!!!

Everyone - my focus is to maintain Julian’s efforts and get us past the MyLaps changes that created him a lot of headaches - but we’ll have do it together.

#8

Please note that some records have been updated already (as a MW driver I was able to update the MW records.)

#9

Something to consider. Tracks age and become slower. I suggest you post best times for each year, not absolute best. That way everyone has an up to date time for comparison.

#10

I could break things down further, I have the ability to do that… we’ll see about another section or something… right now, obtaining correct data is the toughest fight.

aggregating it and sorting it is the easy part.

the SE Region’s results are horrid to analyse - barely any comprehensible dates to use…

#11

Updates made for several regions (MW, GL, SE, MidAtlantic, SE, & SoCal)…

Please check for omissions and mistakes.

#12

I know the Mid-South keeps track of some track record times I believe. We have raced at Nashville, Memphis, and NOLA.

#13

There are results for the Mid-South with SpecE30’s but there are no times listed.

Are there actual times available anywhere?

#14

I believe there is a track records updated post on www.nasaforums.com in the Mid South section.

#15

OK, I managed some new updates…

NorCal - Scott or someone will need to help me decipher the tracks and results and configurations, as they seem to be all listed by the track and not the configuration.

Central and MidSouth were updated as much as possible for now.

#16

Tracks that need updating
Gingerman long (add in times from June 2013)
Grattan (June 2012)
Putnam looks to have qual times from Oct. 2013 & date is wrong. We were not there in Aug. 2013
Watkins Glen (look at each Sept from 2011 to 2013)

We are still only counting race times, not qualifying, correct?

Nor-Cal at least for Sonoma almost all records were set on the last sat of the season. http://www.mylaps.com/en/classification/2929151?perClass=1 There is the link. Thunderhill is a toss up for when the track was fast.
