The Rumors Are True...

#1

…Okay, so there probably aren’t any rumors about me (except that one – I was young and I needed the money, and I’ve moved past that point in my life).

As for the other rumors, I’m pleased to confirm that, after a full year of being on an unintentional "sabbatical", I have not one, but two jobs. :S

Last week, I started as the Assistant Director of Duke University’s Center for International Studies, running, amongst other things, the University’s upcoming Masters in International Studies program (which is ironic, as I only have a BA). :woohoo:

Far more prestigious, I have accepted an in-exclusive offer from Apple Inc. to sell computers the benefits are many (20-hour weekends, long weekday evenings and the lowest pay rate since I was a junior in high school). But that’s what nearly 12 years spent, amongst other things, as an Apple-affiliated developer gets me. (And, no, I don’t qualify for a free iPhone.)

One I’m thrilled about (especially considering it’s a perfect fit for my resume), the other is just to try an replenish the engagement ring and racing budgets. Guess which is which.

My much-anticipated return to racing may not occur until October, or 2008. (I’m sure the official press conference announcement will be aired live on ESPN and SpeedTV.)

I’ve pretty much avoided looking at SpecE30.com, NASAforums/NASAracing over the past 5/6 months… what’d I miss?

Dan - glad you are back in the hunt. Also great to have another academic to race with. You missed a lot, you can likely find by browsing the forum, but best of all, the fields are really big (see picture on home page!) Mike D. finally broke through and got a win at Rockingham, which is the first win I believe among your comp school group. Hope to see you on the grid soon.

Good luck, Dan. Sleep is for the weak!

Dan,

Great to see you are back!

Hopefully the 20 hour weekends aren’t race weekends

Congrats! Where in Durham are you? I’m up in the NW corner/Orange County line. Dad works at DUMC.

I was wondering where you disappeared to. Glad to hear you have found employment that you are excited about. It is about time  BTW, I never did anything about the website. I guess your too busy now.

Look forward to having someone to race with in the back of the pack. :woohoo:

Grew up off South Lowell/Bromley. Katie and I have a house off of Infinity, in Stephen’s Woods. My office is at the corner of Trent and Erwin, in the Franklin Center (down the block and across the street from Duke North – Katie’s a nurse on the 9th floor, which is convenient.)

When I didn’t hear from you, I figured your wife might have murdered you after the 2-lap enduro. (Glad she didn’t.) I didn’t check any of my online BMW/NASA haunts because it was just too frustrating.

Hopefully, with some personal and automotive weight reduction, getting rid of the cat and installing a 2008-legal 2.5" pipe will get me out of the back of the pack – but if it doesn’t, it’s still good company to be in.
