"This ain’t no high school beer party."
Let the lying begin.
Robert Patton won both races Saturday. Herrington won this morning and The Rev took the long race this afternoon.

Well, my weekend was so-so. The new motor seems about as strong as the previous one, that is to say, nothing special but not a dog. However, it smokes a lot. It’s bad on startup, which makes me think it may be valve seals or something; a couple people reported smoke on track as well. Not exactly what I was looking for, but it didn’t blow up. I wish that was the worst of it.
Saturday I went out and turned fastest lap in practice (Robert didn’t go out), but I was pleased considering it was my first time on the track B) . Robert beat me in quali by 2 tenths or so. I got a jump at the start but he beat me around the banking on the bottom side. I followed him for the whole race about 3-5 car lengths back. When we caught a couple Miatas, I managed to get inside him on the last corner (T7?) going on the banking and we split a Miata; Robert beat me to NASCAR 1 and that was the last chance I really had. That lap or soon after, my car stopped going into 4th gear. At first I thought I just got sloppy on the shifts, but I couldn’t even get it in coasting to the finish line on the last lap.
Fast forward to the second Saturday race. The trans had definitely given up 4th. I ran the whole race going 3rd-5th and watching Travis in the mirror fighting a Miata. He let the Miata get ahead and chase me and we battled for the last 6-8 laps, including a nice through-the-grass pass into fish hook. I managed to keep P2 in SE30 and hold off the Miata.
Saturday am race: everyone passed me at the start when I shifted to 5th and I held up Laura for the rest of the race.
Saturday afternoon a deluge came down soon after the start, I was on baldish tires, no 4th, I just went in, loaded up, and waited to hear war stories.
Things could’ve gone better for my car, but the weekend as a whole was great with many stories shared in the garages Fri/Sat night (it was mostly the Al/Travis Show). I think the only E30 damage on the weekend was Travis’ spoiler when he went off this afternoon in the rain.
I ran my fastest lap first seasion saturday on my oldest tires operating on about 4 hours of sleep…it was in the 1.09’s…
I knew my car was good in the infield but both Pattons were faster on the oval…so I decided to block off all the spoiler/valence holes. BIG MISTAKE. 2 DNF’s on Saturday. A 2 inch by 15 inch piece of tape is to blame, it was enough to cause the temp to rise so that by 4 laps I had to bring it in. Travis and Laura both seemed to have my # anyways but it would have been fun to race. Sunday was different and I had a race long battle with Herrington and finished 2nd. I had 2 great moments, one going side by side with Herrington around the still wet oval all the way to the fishhook, and then me and Patton splitting a Mustang in the still wet fishhook. On Sunday I would say there were several times that there was less than an inch between me and any one of 5 Spec e30’s…

That was a great weekend, except the enduro (I have chosen to block this race from memory forever). The 2 Sat. races were good fun with me blocking Laura around every turn…that had to be frustrating for her. Ended up 3rd in both races. The Sunday AM race was really fun since I was chasing someone instead of blocking. At the finish, JP beat me by a fender. He acknowledged his whoopin’ of me with the old "one finger salute" out of the drivers window followed by a couple of Tiger Woods fist pumps. I let him have the spot  …he needed a story to tell the gran-kids. All in all there was great fellowship with lots of "beer spiking" and good clean racing.

Uh, Did you just say that out loud:blink:
Damion, No he didn’t say it out loud, he wrote it. And that isn’t covered until page 103, he hasn’t gotten that far yet, give him a break.
Regarding rockingham, the track. It’s different, it is hard on tires, I always have fun there, it is an easy tow, you can scare yourself there. SCCA moved their big race there from VIR. It would be nice to se NASA SE get a VIR South date, some folks would badmouth that track too, but I would love to have 20+ e30’s running in a pack there. The main thing is that Rockingham is a racetrack, they hold a race there, so I go and have fun. I still didnt wear out my old tires…

VIR South :woohoo: that would be awesome.
Anyone have video? Skeen, you usually sacrifice your post production editing skills for the group right?
Another thing about the rock weekend, the HDPE and workers etc said Spec e30 put on the best show by far, we also had the biggest class, 9 cars. The head of NASA SE has bought an e30…

While it pains me to say this, everything Travis did was just good racing. I had a great time, however, I was frusterated by the fact that he was "blocking." It really was some good clean fun and I would have pulled the same moves on him if I had been in front. Someday when he makes it down to my home tracks I’ll show him what it’s like to be behind me with me doing all the blocking.
All in all, it was a great weekend and I was glad to have put on a show for the corner workers.
