Sunroof delete and cut B pillar. Problem?

#1

I’ve spent the last 3 evenings removing my sunroof cassette. I figured that I would find it harder then folks described. But it turned out to be harder yet.

Because I was too stupid to figure out the difference between the B pillar and the cassette flange welded to the B pillar, I cut the B pillar at both sides of the roof. So my question is…Will this effect the rigidity of the car such that I ought to get my cuts welded?

For those that are considering this…my suggestion is to cut around the welds. There’s a thread or two here that will discuss their locations, although I found some additional ones. Buy a half dozen cutting wheels and cut it out in sections. The back of the sunroof cassette is only welded in two places…easily visible tabs behind the B pillars.

The mounting at the B pillars is pretty fearsome. I had to cut around it. That was, uh, after I cut thru it. Er, them.

The front has some sneaky welds that are problems. I did the best I could with the cutter and then let it go.
