Being an idiot I decided to do back to back race weekends at summit and CMP…add to that I drove my race car to CMP 4+hours in 90+ heat…
Summit was not a really good weekend for me, I had tire issues and just never got into the zone…I qualified last both days and finished 6th Saturday by luck and finished last on Sunday where I belonged.
At CMP I ran a 1:58.3 which was .3 faster than my MA/CMP spring lap time…that made me feel pretty good, it also was a huge .1 ahead of Robert…considering the weather I can only account for it by thinking that I am getting used to the car. The only cars that qualified in front of me were 3 "super cup" 944’s…and when they pulled all the P cars for a split start, that put me and Robert on the front row. Robert beat me thru turn 1 and left me to spend my race battling with the fastest Spec Miata who would constantly distract me by appearing in my mirror, completely sideways.
We were done by 3pm so I figured several beers and tequila shots would be the best way to prepare for Sunday’s rematch. Luckily there was no work to be done on either the Black #2 or the Bronze #2 school car.
After regaining conciousness (sp?) Sunday, I was able to outqualify Robert and avenge Saturdays loss, it was a tough but clean race and as this one was late in the afternoon, the track was slick as snot. Compared to the Thunder race where there were cars parked at almost every corner, we did really well and I dont think there was any contact in our group the whole weekend.
Robert, thanks for the brake pads to keep Travis on the track, he had a great time in HDPE 3 and really enjoys running with SE (as I do also).
We also spent some time in Lancaster SC Saturday night…this place makes West Virginia look good, we actually saw someone blow chunks in the Applebee’s and when they had last call at 11pm, there was someone passed out on a table.
I was able to drive the car back home, with no incident and no encounters with the law.
