SpecE30 Patch

#41

I’m running out the door to catch a plane, but will try to post them tonight.
cheers,
bruce

#42

Im in for 2 as well. I like the red and "zero M".

#43

I’m in for 2. I’d like grey or white. I don’t care about the slogan but I do like "unless it is specifically mentioned…"

#44

I’ll take a couple. Like the "High speed, low budget" slogan.

#45

I’d like 2 - any version…

#46

I didn’t intend to cause any "friction" – I wasn’t trying to design an "official" patch; I was more or less inspired by the "unofficial" cruise patches within the naval aviation community and wanted/needed something to break up the virgin look of my firesuit.

I’d still like to pursue the manufacture of my patch, even if it isn’t the official series patch, unless Carter and/or Mike Mills have an objection.

Here are the images that Bruce/Carter sent me, yesterday:

Personally, I like clip_image006 (the third) – it’s simple, clean and effective in fabric. (Keep in mind that these are only going to be 3-5" across and need to be visible enough to show up in a 3" or 4" magazine podium photo.)

The only question that I have is whether or not the "kidney grille" is actually trademarked by BMW – the last thing that we need is to incite Munich’s legal team into action. (Which is why I didn’t incorporate the roundel into my design.)

#47

I’ll rock both…

This one in my favorite of that set

#48

I’ll buy a patch once we decide on one.

I really like the "goes to 11" slogan. In case you’re wondering, my car goes to 12.

I really like the last two.

edit: dan do you know how much that last one would cost to make? That is my favorite for sure.

#50

I like the last design with the Roundel in the background best, but I’d be happy with any of them.

#51

Dan, For what it’s worth, I like the third one.

Nope. (I have no idea how big Bruce had in mind, although, I think it would have to be at least 5" or 6" wide to be legible…)

Keep in mind, though, that these things must be big enough to be readable, which is why my design was simple, colorful and had significant negative space.

In addition, a smaller, simpler design had more flexibility in its placement – my round 3" is intended to go on a shoulder, or the upper torso. (Which is why most flight patches are, at most, 3.5 or 4" wide – anything wider and you have a hard time fitting it on a shoulder or on one side of a flight suit – the average man in a 42" regular is about 12" from armpit to armpit and you have to allow some room for the zipper and bunching as the suit wraps around the chest.

The old NASA patch is 5" wide, which on my suit (I’m a 46 long) means it has to be within 4" or so of the top of the shoulder, else it interferes with the zipper or the arm gusset.

If I had 50 solid orders for the 3" patch, it would cost about $4-5 per copy, with shipping… they require a minimum order (usually 50 or 100) and the price is affected by size, coverage % and quantity.

Also bear in mind that BMW is fiercely protective of its trademarks – the Roundel and "B.M.W." in particular, which is why I’m very wary of designing/producing a patch with a Roundel or using BMW artwork. (The last thing Carter/Mike/NASA needs is the threat of a lawsuit over copyrights.)

Whichever design you decide on I’d like one.

That is true, but I can get a definitive answer from BMW on this as soon as tomorrow. I can already confirm that the roundel logo and the BMW wordmark are not allowed, but the front kidneys might be a possibility.
Will follow up.

#55

I’m in for whatever the final patch design is.

#56

I like 1,3 5 and 7 pic.

How about this for the plan of action:
let’s narrow the patches to 4 of them - 2 from both sets - and then put it to vote for (semi) "official" patch.

Do my choices are in order of preference:

I. red E30 with " ten-tenths zero M " slogan

II.

III.

IV. red E0 with "hight speed low budget"

Igor

Some cool desings guys! FWIW, I liked Dan’s round shape a bit more but like the larger "SpecE30" words in red and incorporating the checkered flag background from Bruce’s.

That said, I’m in for one of the official patches, whatever it turns out to be.

Cheers,

Hi guys,
Thanks for saving me the time of posting the pics, Dan.

These were all intended as "trial balloon" type ideas. None of them are using the official spec e30 font, for example.

Whatever we converge on, I have a program that lets me simulate the embroidered patch look.

Simpler is better as Dan suggests.

Can this forum support polls?
cheers,
bruce

I would like a SpecE30 patch too, count me in!

I set up a poll for patch here:
