SpecE30 Patch

#1

A few months ago, I got a little bored and a little goofy and started playing with mocking up a "flight-suit" style SpecE30 patch. Well, I’ve become bored and goofy again, so I finished it.

The colors aren’t absolute – they were simply netural (as far as indicating a specific driver) and complimentary – nor is the banner text (I was trying to come up with a cocky/pithy phrase).

If anyone actually wants them made, I would go out on a limb and ask Brain if he or one of his squadron-mates has any leads on custom patch makers, since his squadron’s probably had more than a few made.

Dan:

Count me in for a patch.

Yep, I’d like one too. Just an observation, do you think a slightly smaller font for E30 would look better?

#5

Looks real good. Count me in for one as well.

I would keep the E30 font big. Fonts on embroidered patches are always fuzzy so what looks good in an image may be unreadable on a patch.

My in-laws used to do embroidered patches. I’ll ask them if they still have any equipment sitting around and if they’d be interested in making some.

Dan,

Great job on the patch design. I looked in the Yellow Pages under screen printing and there are several companies listed that do custom embroidery that are in Raleigh. I’m sure there are some in Durham too. You might also try the kiosk in the malls that do ball cap embroidery. Count me in for a patch too if you can work it out.

I’m in too. Love the Spinal Tap reference, BTW

I am in for sure

I would be down for a patch as well. I would prefer it just said Spec e30 though without the banner underneath.

Thanks for the clarification. I wouldn’t have had a clue.

I’d suggest trying to match the font that Carter used on the windshield banners - Carter, is it Serpentine font?

Maybe instead of a circular outline, we could make the whole patch in the shape of the double kidney grille. I’ll play around a bit.

Any custom embroidery shop should be able to make them. Likely even an online shop.

The problem with the SpecE30 window banner font (Bank Gothic 33 italic, I believe) is that it’s too thin to render consistently in embroidery.

As for the "double kidney grille" the idea is worthwhile, but the cost of a custom shape would be prohibitive, as would the minimum quantity.

My wife actually has a computerized sewing machine that can do embroidery like this but I would only do test runs on it, nothing production. I have some experience in converting drawings into embroidered instructions for these machines and I don’t think the font weight will be a problem as long as it is tall enough.

I emailed the folks at http://www.wholesale-patches.com/ to see what the effect of a custom outside shape is. Their gallery shows a number of complex shapes http://www.wholesale-patches.com/gallery.htm

I decided to revisit the patch concept.

I need at least 20 people to commit to buying a patch before I can proceed on getting them made. The price will be $11-12, including shipping, for a 3-inch patch. (Retro-style 3" BMW Motorsports patches were selling for the same price at Daytona 24hrs; I’m not trying to make a profit, just break even on the proposition.) I think they can be ready by mid-March, if I’ve got 20 (+) commitments by next weekend.

There will be only one color and one slogan, but i’d like others’ input on them… (I’m leaning towards red or gray/‘No "M"’ or ‘Bricks’.)

For Sasha:

Put me down for 1.
My vote would be for grey or red car with "high speed, low budget" as the slogan
But whatever is fine by me.

Nice job!

Thanks for the effort on this. Count me in for 3. I personally like the Red with the German ‘flying brick’ slogan, but I’m good with whatever you decide to run with.

I want a couple. I like the red zero "M" variant.

Count me in for at least 2. I like the red car; don’t care which slogan.

Thanks.
