SpecE30 - Open Classification Idea

#1

Just a question…

With all the large number of tuned E30s, has there been any thought to replacing the "Eta" class with an "open" class? It would add a significant number of E30 enthusiasts into the mix along with getting some of the yahoos off the street and onto the track.

I had just been wondering because looking around the E30 boards (tech, r3v) there seem to be a good number of people who could and would participate.

I am very new to the scene (as you can tell by my post count) but have had E30s since high school and have a 318is that I’m turning into a SpecE30 racer. I hope to be talking to you guys a lot more and meet some too eventually!

First off, the "eta" class is non-existent at this point.

Second, you can’t have an "open" spec class. Anyone with a tuned e30 that wants to run could take it to GTS (hp/lb classing) or BMW CCA Mod classes (displacement classing).

Like mike said.

The class already exists. Either KP or NASA GTS. There are a couple of E30’s running in GTS already.

Randall, I suspect we would all rather see "yahoos" as you put it, kept OFF the track. I’d rather see them on the street where the police can deal with them.

Thanks for the responses guys! I did some research about the classes you mentioned and see what you mean. Thanks for the input, in any case.

First post shot down…this is a way better BMW forum that most. You guys are a tough bunch of nuts. I hope to earn some respect when I get my car up and running…I’m sure you guys have plenty to teach a yearling like myself.

Sasha, I’m having trouble deciding whether to use the "donuts in the paddock" or the "let’s compare dents" comeback. . . .

Any suggestions? :stuck_out_tongue:
