Spec E30 patches & decals

#1

Group:

In the past, we have considered proposing a small fee to race in Spec E30 of about $20.00 per driver per year, to help with promotional expenses, etc. Overall, the response from the group has been mostly positive.

While we have kept our costs down, we do want to grow the program and that will reqiure additional funds. Sponsorship support has certainly helped but we all know that is going to be limited.

Therefore, we are considering a requirement of two Spec E30 decals on each racecar (one on each side) and one Spec E30 patch on the driver’s suit. You can see the decals on the Spec E30 webstore here on the site.

The total cost to the driver would be about $17.00.

This will help Spec E30 and will also give us a better/more upscale appearance.

Plus, we might have an opportunity for some future webcasts and/or pro series support races (I’m woking on it) so we’ll all look better to spectators.

Thoughts from the drivers?

Carter

And yes, the patches and decals will be available to the general public

It depends how big the decals are? I like the one in the rear window myself, but I’m all for promoting the series and I don’t mind giving $20 every year for that purpose.

Sounds like a reasonable (good) idea to me…

#4

how about a “Spec E30” name strip across the top of the rear side windows and our names at the bottom of those windows? That would look sort of Touring-Car-ish.

Sounds like a very reasonable price, so I’m down with $20 annual fee.

Like Simon I like the idea of the rear window banner vs. the 2 on the side (it’s larger and will be far more recognizable from a spectator POV)… however I cool with whatever.

FWIW: patches are a PITA :S

I like that idea and I do think the placement should be the same for everyone so that the look is uniform and people don’t “hide” the decals on the lower running boards or down low on the car.

I’m for it, it’s a great idea. I like the back window idea the best.

Please just decide soon as the car is currently devoid of stickers.

I’ve actually got all three stickers on my car now (I may be the only one) and I can tell you that the only one that is noticeable is the one on the rear window. The ones on the tops of the front quarters get lost in the mix.

The rear window strip is the way to go.

Here’s a good picture of how the BTR cars all look:

And another shot of the sticker available on the website:

Guys:

Thanks for the good responses.

The rear window decal that you see in so many pics is currently $33.00 delivered (low volume and I have to pick them up at the sign shop and ship each one individually at the Quickship place after buying the tube, paying the shipping, dealing with miss bad attitude… I make enough to buy a milkshake after a couple hours of driving around Raleigh).

However, if/when it’s required, the higher volume will reduce our costs significantly…and we’ll pass that savings on to the drivers.

Or, we’ll require a smaller and lower-cost version on the rear quarter windows, above the driver’s name.

We know that a patch can be a pain to some but I just take my suit to the local tailor and they sew-on a patch for five dollars.

re: sewing on patches. It’s called a wife. I recommend them highly. :stuck_out_tongue:

I like the smaller side one/side window one. As with everyone else - 17-20 bucks is nothing compared to what we get with the series.

The Touring car rear side window idea is cool, I like the little sticker on the Beertech fender.

I guess the banner would be OK, but I’m not nuts about the typeface - and I’d like it to integrate the logo too!

#15

Not that I need to worry about this… I mostly looking out for Skeen, Cabetto and John Allen… if we do the side windows, where will all those “winner” stickers go?

They can put the winner sticker on the back window. I don’t think they use the back window anyway - they already passed me… :frowning:

I’d vote back window but maybe a bit smaller.

While good intentioned, asking one already busy guy to run around buying stickers in various colors and shipping them doesn’t seem optimal. Why not just kick in $20 and put the design on the web site so we can download the drawing and take it to local vinyl place? I’m pretty sure there’s no performance advantage, although if we integrated a Nike swoop somehow I’m sure that we’d be a little quicker than all those non-swooped HC cars.

that’s the best idea so far…

Part of the problem with the free download (good idea BTW) is that the purpose of this whole thing seems to be to generate some cash for the series coffers. So that won’t be helpful.

I’m all for the small decals. Between required decals, my graphics and a few sponsors (nods to people who helped, mostly) I don’t have a whole lot of room left for big banners proclaiming the series I’m in, though I did encorporate “Spec E30” into my side graphics for class designation. Let’s not clutter up our cars with too much required signage, please.

I recognize that we need to help provide some funding to the series so that we can move ahead. An idea would be to have us all donate $10 now and disregard the whole stickers/patch topic for now which might cost $7 in materials anyway (hence $17 total). I think that would be the most efficient way to handle the topic for now, and then we can deal with appearance topics down the road at which point we can pay another $7-10 for those items.
I would request that whatever is decided upon be on the smaller side to be respectful of the car owners that might be using the space for other decals or stickers to pay homage to those institutions that have helped them get there.

Thanks,
