dealing with traffic is part of the skill of racing - racecraft
Any weight reduction would be good for these cars. The chassis transition takes super long because of the weight and the soft suspension package. Taking 100# out would make these things as fast as the spec miatas. In addition, I think there is a safety aspect to all this especially if you run in a mixed class like we have in norcal. Spec E30 is so slow that the race is often ruined by lap cars.

What if the region impose a lower weight just for its regional race, while going back to national weight for national level races?
That is not an option. All regions are governed by the National Spece30 Rules for consistency.
dang

Hey guys, I got new body parts at the JY today - new door, fenders, grill, and coolant bottle as well as two new tail light lenses (b/c it’s only a matter of time before someone plows into the back of my car due to my awesome braking power :stuck_out_tongue: ). I had to order new numbers too. This little fender bender is adding up. Let that be a lesson to us all to not bend metal, it’s time consuming and expensive…

Good photos and a good video.

And the 2750 min. weight came from SCCA ITS, I think. Mike Mills and I made that decision so long ago that I can’t remember exactly. And at this point, for consistency, we’ll stick with it.

And one Region discussed enforcing their own rules and NASA National lowered the boom real quickly. And it’s good that they did. Other “Spec” series have had different rules in different parts of the country and it always caused problems. With Spec E30, the rules are the same for everyone and that keeps it simple and easy.

While some have complained about the tires being too narrow, (or the cars too heavy?) we always go back to the same core principal of Spec E30. If everyone has the same parts, why does it matter? It’s not about the cars (or lap times), it’s about the racing. And from the video I just watched, that was some great racing!

I agree with Carter and Bruce… there has to be a limit somewhere AND traffic is part of racing, use it to your advantage

We have found that a moderately stripped down car will tend to be light. With the ballast limit of 100lbs it is a chore to get keep where they need to be. We have been telling people over the past year to leave in alot of the tar, especially the trunk area. By doing this making weight is not a problem. I think it is a fine balancing act between too light and not light enough. If the weight were alot lower it would be expensive to get to that point. However that being said, getting an additonal 100lbs out of the car would be easy and inexpensive. I think that removing all the tar is a good thing in case a fire were to occur. We had the same discussion in BMWCCA regarding prepared rules and the removal of extra wiring. I saw it as a safety question not as a “weight” question. I think the rules were updated to relfect that removal of extra wiring is now okay.
