Scott,
Thanks for the photos I was happy to see you out here and with the rest of the SpecE30 troop.

AJ,
You never cease to amaze me… When I saw your car I just figured you were out. I’m glad that the guys pitched in and you got back out and hit the ground running.

Elliot definately hit us up, we have Sampson radios and we can help you wade through their website / options etc.

See you all at Thunderhill!

#23

Steve, have you found another tranny yet? Are you going to be able to get the car fixed in time for Llih-T?

First it was motors, then it was sway mounts and wheels, lately it’s been trannys. Now you’re going to go out and kill your brakes too? You are the MAN!

Thank you to all the people I met on Sunday for their hospitality. It was a lot of fun during the race, and you guys are all outstanding racers.

Wonder if they would drop the running weight to 2500…

See you guys at T-hill.

Tommy

Glad you had a good time Tommy. Wish I would have gotten to race with you. I’m sure there will be plenty more opportunities though.

I think everybody agrees that the minimum weight should be a lot less. I have no idea why a minimum weight of 2750 was implemented. Not that the cars aren’t fun, but I think they would be a lot more fun with less weight.

T-hill only about two weeks away!!!

2/10ths better than the average driver.

My E30 racecar (not a SpecE30 car) weighs around 2545 lbs with 1/2 tank gas and without driver. It is fully stripped and the driver door is gutted but it does have the stock dash panel. It also has a small and light Odyssey battery. I don’t think I can get the running weight with driver down to 2500 lbs without resorting to fiberglass body panels. Granted, I need to lose weight, too, but that’s another topic

I don’t see how you could ever get the running weight close to 2500 lbs. Maybe 2650 lbs with a really small driver…

CORRECTION: Previous owner wrote down that my car weighs 2545lbs with 1/2 tank fuel and with driver. I’m not sure how much he weighed, though. So I guess a running weight of 2500 lbs is achievable. My bad!

P.S.- there is even a fifth gear there ET, I know you don’t get past third even in the race.
Podium you say, you should check the NASA website for all my winnings. And yes I raced ONE car for the most part of all last year but that ONE car had two drivers that even when they are spinning and braking you cant catch and pass.Ohhhhhhh what now? Whatcha gona say little e…Blame it on the wind…blame it on the rain…Blame it on your right foot not talking to your brain…
Oh man that made me laugh out loud…

I have had 0 problems getting E-30’s down near 2500 pounds without doing anything major like fiberglass body panels. I’d settle for 2650 though…

#37

Hey elliot I hear some guys are heading to buttonwillow. Sounds like only two so you better load up the car and get your spot on the podium while you still can. Good thing you only have to complete half the laps to recieve points or you getting lapped so much would be an issue.

Ya’know, I may be speaking out of my butt again:ohmy:

The previous owner of my car gave me the 2545lb figure and I thought he meant without driver. I’ll have to check the build sheet. Perhaps that figure includes driver. Plus, I’ll have to weigh it one of these days to see what it weighs with me in it.

Thanks for straightening me out!

Any weight reduction would be good for these cars. The chassis transition takes super long because of the weight and the soft suspension package. Taking 100# out would make these things as fast as the spec miatas. In addition, I think there is a safety aspect to all this especially if you run in a mixed class like we have in norcal. Spec E30 is so slow that the race is often ruined by lap cars.

What if the region impose a lower weight just for its regional race, while going back to national weight for national level races?

That is not an option. All regions are governed by the National Spece30 Rules for consistency.
