Spec E30 grows to Ohio/Indiana

#1

Hello Spec E30 racers,

I’m pleased to announce the addition of the Spec E30 Championship to the NASA Ohio-Indiana region. Enthusiasts all over the country are taking notice of the good close racing that we have been enjoying in the Mid-Atlantic region, and I am excited about helping the series grow.

Carter Hunt, the Spec E30 Mid-Atlantic Series Administrator, and Father of the series, has named me, Vic Hall, as the Series Administrator for Ohio-Indiana. It will be my pleasure to continue his racing philosophy of great E30 competition at a reasonable cost.

Dave Royce, the Ohio-Indiana Regional Director, has also volounteered his support of Spec E30, and it’s growth. Don’t forget that NASA Nationals are headed to Mid-Ohio this year. It’s a great time to visit the fun and exciting tracks in the Mid-West.

I encourage interesed racers to check out www.racenasa.com for the NASA Ohio-Indiana schedule. Feel free to e-mail me at victorhall@comcast.net anytime with questions.

Congratulations, Vic. Looks like you’ll be travelling some in the comming years. As the administration guy you’ll be at every race and, like yours truely, you’ll be in a good position to be the top spec e30 for the region. Yet,we’ll always have those trips to a Mid Atlantic region to keep us humbled as we both drag up the rear of the pack. Where is your first event? Regards, Robert Patton

Congratulations guys. What ingredients are needed to get a similar initiative out of the NASA Northeast chapter? Do potential racers need to come forward and ask?

#4

yes, just ask - they’re running a business and (almost) anything that brings more cars is good.
cheers,
bruce

that’s good to here vic

#6

Good Deal Vic… Did you move?

#7

Thanks guys - I’ll answer questions in reverse order here…

Sean - I didn’t move, but with all the Mid-Ohio events this year, I figured it would be a great opportunity to spread the sport. As long as we get a few (or hopefully several) cars up north, I think people will take notice and start building cars, just like has happened along the East Coast! Plus, Beaver is closer to home than VIR, and Mid-Ohio is MUCH closer than CMP.

As far as starting the same initiative in NorthEast, I suggest talking to Carter, and contacting the NASA folks up there.

Finally, upcoming events, the schedule looks like this:

  • April 21-23 @ Mid-Ohio
  • May 20-21 @ Putnam Park
  • June 10-11 @ Beaver Run
  • July 7-9 @ Mid-Ohio
  • July 22-23 @ Autobahn
  • August 11-13 @ Mid-Ohio
  • October 7-8 @ Putnam
    and of course * September 11-17 NASA NATIONALS * @ Mid-Ohio.

And as a reminder, TOYO bucks will be up for grabs at the OH/IN races.
1st Place wins 100 “Toyo Dollars and another $500 goes to the series champ for the year!

Sounds good…
Anything is closer than CMP…
Come on Dragon’s Ridge!!!

#9

Victor - Dave Royce sounds awfully familiar. Did he move there from SoCal recentely? I may know the name from somewhere else, or may just know a different Dave Royce…

#10

Steve - It is probably the very same Dave Royce. He mentioned that he recently moved from SoCal. He is currently the Regional Administrator for NASA OH/IN and NASA Midwest.

I’ve never met him in person, but he had really good things to say about E30’s - making him an instant friend of mine

As we grow, we will need more Spec E30 Regional Directors.

Regarding the Northeast, let’s talk. I want to get up to Watkins Glen (if a race is held there) and hopefully we can get some interest in Spec E30.

Overall, our growth is exactly what we want. Steady growth with quality drivers is the plan and we’re pleased with the results.

Vic and I discussed his appoinment to be a Spec E30 Regional Director and I’m sure he will do well.

And if anyone else has an interest in being a Sepc E30 Regional Director, feel free to contact Mike or me anytime.

'Sorry about the poor spelling guys. It’s 1:00 am and I’m going down fast…

This is news to me! Good news. Perhaps after I get more seat time at HPDE there is another option.

Shweet!

#15

Sorry to revive an old thread but how many cars are running in the midwest at the moment? Thanks

#16

The next Spec E30 event with OH/IN is Mid-Ohio on August 12-13. We’re expecting 5 to 7 racers.

Thanks Vic, what track will that be at?

I will venture a guess…Mid Ohio

 What a dumbass I am!! Is 5-7 fairly typical in the midwest or is it people just getting ready for nationals. What would a track like putnam attract? Are there many people building cars in the midwest, thanks!

#20

Jack,
A lot of the attraction is due to Nationals. We’re hoping the excitement of the event will spread the Spec E30 word. The folks running at Mid-Ohio are Mid-Atlantic racers. Getting to tracks like Putnam is a geographical challenge for most of us.
If you’re thinking of next year, you’re likely to see good turnouts at Ohio, and closer (to the coast) tracks like Beaver Run.
