Spec e30 exhaust on street car

#1

I drive an 88 325is with billy sports/h&r race, camber kit, all poly bushings, aluminum control arms, factory exhaust. This is my daily driver until I get out of school in 2 years. Would the spec e30 exhaust get me pulled over? You cant beat what you get for the price. Also how low does it hang I have heard about them hanging to low. If it would be to loud, how about with a resonator or high flow cat welded in?
Thanks for your help.

The Spec Exhaust is loud and you will likely get the attention of law enforcement. Noise level and the way it hangs makes it a track-only exhaust IMO.

Yeah, I’d stay away. Take the car to your local exhaust guy and have him weld up something similar with extra mufflers.

It’s fun-loud, but probably would get the wrong kind of attention. The hanging bit sucks.

Where are you located? I’ve got a complete system with a sporty but quiet muffler on it that I no longer need. Not willing to ship it though.

I recommend you don’t try it. The spec exhaust ends up being the lowest part on the car and gets caught on everything. Friday I drove my car to a company picnic and it fell off from scraping leaving a driveway. No damage done, thankfully. Like Mike said, get a setup made for the street.

I agrre with everyone that the spec exhaust is too loud for the street.

Having said that, my car (which is not spec legal beccuse of the exhaust at the moment) has two of the spec (Twister ) mufflers welded to the original twin pipes in the factory muffler location. When the car had the cat it was loud but not too bad. I drove it like that on the street for years. SInce the cat is gone now though it is uncomfortably loud on the street.

Send me your e-mail address. I’ll send you a phpt and even a movie clip of how it was with the cat.
