Spares List

#1

I searched and didn’t find it, I thought at one time this topic may have come up?

Anyway feel free to post a link if someone recalls.

At Rockingham watching the Maltliquor Tech cars pour out their speed juice (ie water ‘coolant’) and the fact that someone had just the hose that Al’s car needed got me thinking.

What is everyone bringing to the track in terms of spares? The criteria being easy to change, probability of breaking, and/or in a potential damage location. Not really consumable type things (Brake pads)

So far I’ve got:

Brake rotor screws
Crank Ref sensor
Belts
Thermostat
Spark plug wires
Spark plugs
12 gauge wire
Fuses
ECU
AFM
coolant temp sensor
isv
Fuel pump
Fuel Relays
Hoses

Any obvious misses?

You bring all of those items?

#3

No, that is why I’m making the list so I ‘can’ bring all of those.

Sounds like a lot but all of that stuff could fit in a typical rubbermaid type storage box. I’m missing the hoses, belts, and fuses! (at least at the Rock, no more)

Of course it is always what you don’t bring that breaks.

i’m basing my input on what i bring for my IP car…in addition to your list

brake rotors
brake pads
water pump?
sway bar end links? (these have a tendency to break on IP cars, not sure if you guys ever have issues)
plenty of fluids (distilled water, oil, water wetter, ps fluid, trans fluid, diff fluid, brake fluid)

the more spares you have, the less you’ll need

I usually have Alt belt, main relay, tie rods, control arms, ECU, ABS brain, spark plugs, Bentley book.
It all is in a rubbermaid tote.
I ran home to get a door once…
I live pretty close to summit and have a bunch of junk in my shed…it is available to any who may need it

I like to have 1 front and 1 rear wheel bearing spare as well.

#7

You run brake rotor screws?

The list could go on forever. That’s why we let Al and Robert run with us. :woohoo:

The motor/tranny mounts like to let go at inopportune times as well.

I’m drawing the line at things like - spare motor, spare tranny (not that kind Al), etc.

Basically things that can be lifted easily, have a tendency to break and are relatively inexpensive.

If Robert can’t sell off the taxi I’m waiting for him to start talking about his "backup car" ala NASCAR.

Jim,

I don’t think most people have hoses. Al got lucky that I just bought those 2 main front hoses for an '87 because mine were looking a little shabby.

Ditto on wheel bearings, especially if you are going to run VIR north. I would throw in a spare fuel pump, which we also have. Spare rocker arm and shaft - even though there are enough folks who have one, that you could probably borrow one.
