Shipping major drive train parts via Greyhound

Next time you have some big-ass piece of metal to ship, check out Greyhound. I’m selling an e30 auto tranny and a have a prospective buyer that is 800mi. North of me. I’d heard that Greyhound can ship this sort sort of thing so I got an automated quote from their website based on 80lbs and 36" in longest dimension and it’s going to cost $88 to ship the tranny. And it’s Next Day. That’s pretty darn good.

If the buyer goes for it, I’ll strap the tranny to a small pallet and take it to the Greyhound station.

100lb limit tho.

Yeah, the Hound is pretty good for that sort of thing. I’ve had some body panels shipped that way. I’ve had good luck using them.

This is good to know, thanks! I guess for some reason that never would have dawned on me.

Yep, I had a guy send me a transmission for my Miata via Greyhound from Wichita to Durham, and I think it was $75. He picked up a crate kit for $5 on sale somewhere. Definitely the way to go. Only downside is you have to drive to the bus station to pick it up. But well worth it for the cost savings.
