SE30 Racers Win the Longest Race in the World!

#1

SpecE30 Racers (Past, Present, and Soon-to-Be) Win the 25 Hour 25 Minute 25 Second ChumpCar World Challenge Race at Nelson Ledges!

Drivers: Mike Skeen, Anthony Magagnoli, Simon Hunter, Tim Smith, Ryan Schuster, and car-owner Scott Barton

Crew: Denny Barker, Nate Thulin, Mike Fitch, Anna Barton

Car: Duct Tape Motorsports E30 318is

October 9, 2011
Coming back from an engine failure on the Friday Test Day (3 hour engine swap!), team Duct Tape Motorsports was described by one competitor as “aggressive but clean” as they pushed through the entire race, always working to advance position without compromising equipment or losing focus. With a modest lead built up by the first third of the race, they faced some minor setbacks with an exhaust torn off by a competing car and then one small error on cold tires. Being set back by a few laps, the drivers worked back through the field and had a 2 lap lead by sunrise. That was extended to 8 laps by the time the car cruised in to a first place finish!

Congrats to the team! I was glad to be a part of it and so satisfied to see our plan come to fruition!

Some good guys on that team, congrats guys!

#3

That’s awesome, congrats!

#4

Excellent job and congratulations! That had to be a ton of fun!

Congrats! I’ve followed this car ever since they posted that video of it being straightened by a backhoe. Checked it out at NJMP in April. It sure is a lot faster than it looks.

LOL. The DTM E30 has embarrassed a lot of drivers of fast cars in the last few years

For every conclusion you draw from this, there is some reason to support or reject it (vehicle condition, tires, light/dark, traffic density, etc). Not every driver was out there to set FTD. In fact, it was rare to get a clean lap with no traffic. I’m not sure if any of us EVER had a completely clean lap. Despite that, here you go…

great job guys! but “simon says” you’re going down next year.

Bring it, biotch! We almost had a BMW sweep of the podium… Had to settle for a BMW 1-2
I believe that this car will now have to start it’s next ChumpCar race 9 laps down , in an effort to equalize competition. I guess we’ll need more pros… lol

Great Job

Very impressive. I’ve got to give crap can racing a shot one of these years.

I had a blast, great group of guys. That win will be hard to top.

Fair warning to anyone building a car for Chump/Lemons, there are now multiple e30’s and e36’s with built s52’s hidden under the hood. Don’t bring a knife to a gun fight, the bar has been raised. I am even more proud of this win because we did it in a 318 and we did it clean.
