hang on chuck, are you seriously implying that there are significant folks running cheater suspensions and diffs in SE30? really? what is the basis for this assumption?
SCCA E30?
Most regions don’t even have 5 cars that show up (SE and NE being the exceptions).
Oh and BFG R1s are faster than Hoosiers.
Forged pistons…NASA legal, same weight, .020 over max., etc.
Header… perhaps 4-5hp over Spec
Chip…Turner, Bimmerworld, Dianan = easy button
If you don’t think there are rebuilt shocks running in spec, shame on you.
Spec springs are very close…within 50# of what I run
Suspension material…NASA and SCCA = same
Not a 4.1…4.27:evil:
Modified LSD…you mean you don’t have one? Shame on you.
"Shame on me"
shame on you for not knowing the rules
Julian, they do. I run a set of Mahle in my ITA car and on a gram scale, they are identical in weight…wrist pin is the same, ring lands, etc.
Julian, they are. I run a set of Mahle in my ITA car and the dimensions and weight (on my gram scale) are identical. They are worth HP.
If you think there are not those who would take advantage of lax rule enforcement within any series you are sadly mistaken. Rebuilt shocks, modified diffs, pistons, cams, the list is endless. What I have found, however, the closer people run to the front of the pack, the more legal their cars are.

Based on my experience, the SE folks are either legal or it doesn’t seem to be helping.
Brandon, I know the rules and build my cars to the limit of the rules…I suspect you do the same.
What is funny/confusing is I can’t tell with any sort of confidence who is serious here…
What is really confusing is that Baader always weighs in on issues on the SE30 board based on what he does under an entirely different ruleset in ITA.
In my opinion, we don’t see folks blowing through the rules. Taking advantage and playing right at the edge of the rules (e.g. track width)? Sure.
Fancy shock specs, illegal diff mods/ratios? Nope. I lasted exactly one southeast race before it was rather gleefully pointed out that I might have the wrong diff ratio. (PS - Automatic cars have the 4.10).
Close racing tends to keep folks from blowing through the rules. Nibbling around the edges? Sure.
Chips, headers, illegal pistons, tricked up suspensions in Spec E30? Not that we see much. In ITA? You’re racing against CRX’s and Ford Escorts. How could you tell if it’s supposed to be a close race?
I am familiar with both rule-sets since I have built cars to both. (4 SCCA, 1 BMWCCA, 4 Spec E30)in the last 12 or so years. Experience has taught me that any given rule-set will be cheated if the owner/driver wants to cheat. I am certainly not saying any of the cars I built had cheater parts…on the contrary, I advise against that and suggest he or she substitute seat time. However, a walk through any pit at any race will usually make me go “hummmmmmm…don’t know about that”.
Steve, you run Spec Miata…did you know that there are people running behind you that are grossly illegal?
It happens, its going to happen, and the only way to police it is for the competitors to do so. Don’t expect the organization to police rules compliance…that is a racer responsibility. Now the only real problem is…is the person outrunning me a better driver or is he cheating? Of course, we all know the answer. Everyone in front of us is cheating, everyone behind you are outdriving:laugh:
