What is your story?

Great outside line into 10a pass by David Walsh on the last lap and I ended up in 4th for Sundays race.

Then a little gasoline fire (I think) as the car was being put on the trailer. Will look at the damage later.

Good clean racing within our group (I think). Thanks all.

That’s my story.

Others?

Regards, Robert Patton

Too damn hot!

Had a poor qualifying session on Sat. and ended up third behind Johan and Robert. We ran that way for the first half of the race until I was able to get by Robert going into turn 1. I then set out after Johan who had opened up a decent gap. I closed the gap and got to within about 1.5 seconds when they threw the red flag for Jim’s wreck. We ended there.

The qualifying racing on Sunday morning used the finshing positons from Sat. I started 2nd, Johan first. He got a great start as the flag was thrown way earlier than I expected. It didn’t help that I forgot to put fuel in that car before the race so about 5 laps in I was fuel starving. That was not going to allow me to challenge Johan but we had a big enough gap on the rest of the field that I maintained 2nd.

Sunday I once again started 2nd. I tried to get Johan going into turn 3 at the start but wasn’t quite close enough and almost lost a position to Robert. Johan and I eventually pulled out a gap but I still had nothing for him as he maintained about a 2-3 sec gap for the entire race. He did a great job managing the traffic that we hit by lap 2!

Congrats to Johan for sweeping the weekend, as he drove really well. Overall it was good weekend.

P.S. I rubbed the inside of Brian Jones’s girlfriend thighs and she liked it!:woohoo:

I was thinking of you folks this weekend as I was NOT racing. Bummer. I’m sure the heat was brutal, but it sounds like good racing. Wish I was there…
Yesterday, I took the head off my engine and the #6 intake valve stem broke and dropped into the cylinder. Internal carnage. More in a later thread.

It’s not the same without Jon, Geeger and Robinson. Where were the other two.

Oh yeah, Devinney too, make that three.

Jimmy, it is fun reading your website, very sorry about the damage. The curse of fresh paint holds true.

Thanks Steve, I’m amazed anyone takes the time to read it but I’m glad people enjoy it. Its fun to write even if I exaggerate things a bit.

Patton says I’m a p_ssy and just kick the dents out and get on with it.

So maybe this weekend we’ll try a little amateur body work. I still dream of Roebling…

I was frustratingly incompetant, but I still had a helova good time. During the day I was hanging with Fred, Jim & the Palacio’s and in the evening I was keeping Jones’s girlfriend company. I think that she just needed someone to talk to.

I think that I need to focus more on identifying specific turn-in points. Here-to-fore I’ve tried hard to put my eyeballs on turn exit PRIOR to turn in, and then turn in when it seemed right. But that is causing a helova lot variance in my turn-in points and usually they are a couple feet late.

So what I think I need to do is select a turn-in reference point and rigidly stick to it, or correct it, but no more “when it seems right”. Then force my peripheral version to handle the job of signaling “turn”, while my eyeballs are still focused on track out.

I felt “clumsy” all weekend, and the lap times reflected it. Was irksome.

The other thing that was irksome was my low oil pressure. I’m running 40W and it was 30-35psi at redline. I’ll change that to 50W and see what happens.

It may amuse the front runners to know that Johann was running some really worn out tires this weekend. I don’t know how he ran those times in hot temps with tires that were almost corded.

I really liked the “Race as Qual” approach. It was like getting a 3rd race for the weekend.

And Kelly, and Scott, and Brian, and Steve, and Travis, and Al, and John, and Steve, and Skeen, and Pantas…who did I forget?

Looks like the potential to have a field of 25 some day.

I may stick with the 888s. My new 5/32 RA1s were junk on the coolish Sunday quali race, 2 seconds slower and the car was pushy and all over the place. Went back to the almost-to-cord 888s for the afternoon race. Fast at first, but went away at the end. Guess we know what the NASCAR guys are referring to when the complain…and I’m just an amatuer (although good with excuses).

I’ll try the RA1s again at RRR.PMp

I enjoyed my first races with you guys this weekend. Thanks for putting up with my transmission-breaking, no-driving, wall-climbing antics

Overall a fun weekend. An off in turn 1 on saturday and spinning through 10 A on the last lap Sunday didnt help finishing position but overall a great time racing with Fred, Eric and Jim until his unfortunate incident with a Miata. I almost suffered a similar event Sunday morning with another Miata at turn in for 12 but managed to keep the car straight. Happy that Jim was OK. Next time you all need to stay awake for XBox beer racing at WalshLakoRacing camp. We make a safer substitue fot the absent Beertech entertainment.

Fun weekend. Really sorry to see Jim’s accident.

Ran fine on Saturday. Qualified 7th and finished 7th. The first few laps I was keeping up with Matt and even got a run on him in to 10 (his clutch was going out and he couldn’t get a good run out of the corner) but eventually he pulled out a little bit of a gap, big enough to keep me at bay.

Sunday morning was fun, I got caught in traffic, but tried to stay with Matt. Eventually he went off in 1, so I got by him and that’s how we finished. Pulled in to the pits and found my radiator leaking. Fortunately, Jim was nice enough to let me take off his radiator (oddly enough it survived with only small scars) and that got me running. Got a horrible start and let 4 cars by in to 3, was able to get Laura and Brandon Smith back, but never caught Chuck or one of the Lako/Walsh cars and finished 8th.

High point of the weekend was getting an almost 1:48 flat lap, which is 2 seconds better then my previous best. Now need more practice time at RA, so I can start seeing some 1:47s.

It was fun hanging out, plus I think Deb is thinking of dropping the whole Spec Miata idea and maybe doing the E30 route, which would be pretty cool. Other then the heat it was a great time.

Alex.

PS Can somebody fill me in on Brian’s girlfriend joke?

My weekend had a frustrating start, which improved as it went along. Braking problems (real and perceived) on Saturday had me qualifying DFL, and only the rookies started behind me.

Was able to pick up some pace (but not enough) in the races, but got a lot of racecraft practice in during Saturday’s race and in the Sunday qual race. Still wondering why I was well off the pace I ran in early July at a track day.

As for the continued carnage and low-grade incidents with Miatas, obviously there are no simple answers, but Jason Holland, the NASA guys, and myself are committed to try and find some ways to improve the situation.

Laura made a heck of a save in T1 Sunday morning (around 11:30 mark).

You know Jim, we can make that Roebling trip a reality… I can’t believe I’m saying this (because I admit that I am the ultimate arrive and drive person) but if it means you can race at Roebling I’ll drive to Atlanta and attempt (being the key word here) to help you with that body work.

I’d like a good shot at beating you at Roebling
